Hello, I bought this trilobite today for a very reasonable price, but it didn’t come with a species or genus label so I was wondering if I could have some help identifying. It does say it’s from Russia, and is from 450 Ma. I was thinking Asaphus lepidurus but I’m not sure.

Today I stopped by a local auction house, about 1 hour from home, that usually has Native American artifacts and fossils, today was no different. I picked up this nice mounted display piece of 3 pyritized Jurassic ammonites from Russia. When I arrived at home, I showed it to my wife and she stated that it was the prettiest fossil that she has ever seen me buy- Lol. Here are some pics of some of the other pieces that they had, some of these pieces went for prices that regular fossil collectors would never pay, it was insane. I am glad only one other person bid against me and I got it for $40.00. Horse cannon bones Trilobite- Isotelus (?) Madagascar ammonites 13” Woolly Rhino jaw- I had to tell the guy who paid a lot of money for it that it did not come from Nevada as the auctioneer said it did. Moroccan shark teeth South Dakota Oreodont skull and Stylemys turtle. There were bones that were supposed to be Dino and could very well be, with restoration, but I could not tell.

Now that I'm getting more of my fossils out of storage I have a few more to request ID's for. I've had these for over 17 years, last 15 boxed away. Here I have 3 Russian trilobites for your consideration 1 2 3 Thanks again Steve

Hello all I acquired this tooth recently. It's those famous russian deposits that produce ichthyosaur and pliosaur remains. I bought it as an ichthyosaur tooth, but could it be it's pliosaur? I've noticed rootef ichthyosaur teeth have a bit different root, like a pronged root. But I'm hardly an expert so I'd greatly appreciate feedback from others

I'm trying to translate some scanned Russian papers into English. What I'm looking for is a good OCR (optical character recognition) software that will then produce a translatable pdf to be used in one of the standard online translation sites. Needs to work with a Mac and I don't mind paying if it does the job well. Any suggestions? My searches just come up with loads of companies advertising their own...

Very rare Cardabiodon tooth for trade
indominus rex posted a topic in Member-to-Member Fossil Trades
Hello, today for trade I’d like to offer a very rare and big Russian Cardabiodon tooth. These are very rare sharks and you definitely don’t see them very often. For trade I’m looking for dinosaur material or large shark teeth (mainly Megalodon teeth, Mako teeth or Great White). -
Hi I am new to the world of fossils , I bought a fossil from a gift store , labeled 'Russian Ammonite'. I asked for more details from the store rep, but I did not get anything other than it was a russian ammonite. I am interested to know what kind of ammonite this is? My guess is that this is stephanoceras . Looking forward to hear from forum members on what they think ? Thank you! Priya

So, I too, have finally decided to tackle a Russian bug. I have a handful that are in need of prep. I decided to start working on one that I had that is a nice size, but was pretty banged up to begin with, which is a really great thing, because for reasons that I can't quite explain I went on an excavation above the cephalon clear through the matrix and into the fossil without even knowing it until it was too late. Really a bummer that I did that, a very amateur mistake. BEFORE:

Just got this Russian trilobite in the mail. I haven't done any fossil prep before, but am really excited to get started. I tested the matrix with a pin and it feels fairly soft, I think a lot softer than the fossil. Right now I just have hand tools, but I do have an air abrasive machine coming in the mail. I haven't used one before though, so I don't want to start on this one. I do have an identical trilobite all prepped already, so it will serve as a good anatomical reference. My thought is to remove all the rock above the trilobite and use the longer side of matrix (left side in first pic) as a base (cutting it level to stand on). Not quite sure how to approach removing the large amount of rock. Once I get down to the trilobite I feel a little more confident.
