Hi all, I recently returned from spending a few days searching the beach of Tybee Island, Georgia, and found something I am unsure as to what it is. From reading online it looks like the age could be anywhere from Miocene to present. My initial gut is some sort of vertebra. Please let me know if any other photos or information would be helpful. Thank you!

Hi all! This is my first time posting here, so hoping to have one of you help with ID on a fossil I found in a spoil spot on the Savannah River. These are dredged spots used to deepen the Savannah River for large cargo ships. After doing some digging here on the fossil forum I stumbled on a whale teeth diagram that seem pretty similar to what I’ve found. Thanks all for your help in advance.

If anybody from the area wants to chat about spots and what we find there around savannah and Summerville, SC just message me. My son is getting older and more interested in it so I’m getting out more.

I’m Located in Savannah, GA but take day trips to Summerville, SC often. We find very good teeth here in Savannah including Megs at our more secret islands on the banks. I usually go with my wife and son but I wanted to find better spots in Summerville to take my kid instead of taking the boat to the islands. Would anybody want to swap spots with me? I would take you on the boat to the islands we hunt from if I can get some inside where to go in summerville.

This is a recent find on a sandbar where I find land and sea fossils. Reminds me of a human fibula, but I really have no idea. I also found 3 turkey verts, sea turtle fragments and shark teeth on the same day. This looks like it will be easily identifiable, but can provide more info if needed. Hi! Its been awhile since I posted. I found this vertebra near Tybee Island in the Savannah River. Its about 6 inches long and 3 inches thick. Anyone has any idea what it might have belonged to? Thanks !

I found this teeth on a beach in the Savannah River. I have to specimens both broken but I believe there the same species. Both have the what it appears to be a three root base. Specimen A Any input its appreciated! Thanks!!

Hi all, I have a mysterious croc tooth that needs identifying. It measures 7cm in a straight line, with a crown length of 3cm. It was found in a backwater near Savannah, Georgia. It came out of an old stream bed eroding out. The area is normally a Miocene deposit where there are Gavialosuchus americanus but the original owner (who is a fossil croc expert) sincerely believes it's something else as there are supposedly earlier deposits there as well. He thinks it is from the lineage of Deinosuchus. Has anyone seen such croc/alligator teeth in Georgia? Has anyone heard of late Cretaceous deposits near Savannah? Thank you.

Found this three on the savannah river near Tybee Island. A I think might be a capybara tooth? B I have no idea! C Maybe dolphin? It has a curvness where I think another tooth created some wear. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!!

Hi! I found this ivory piece I would like some help... Its has a rounded tip so I figure it might be a type of tusk tip? I know ivory grows on ring like formations but this piece is almost flat like more of a oval. And its so polish on the outer layer. I found it in a beach near Tybee Island in the Savannah River. Any help is apprecieated!!! Thanks in advance

Hi! Its been awhile since I posted so I've accumulated several new specimens. They are all from a beach in the Savannah River. Many are broken... A - Giant Beaver Tusk B - Elephant Ivory piece (note the schreger pattern) (Is there a way to know the species?) C - Capybara D - ??? E - Canis ??? F - Tapir ??? G - ??? H - ??? I'll post more in a second part... Any comments are greatly appreciated!!!

Hi guys! I recently found this bone in an Island in the Savannah River, really close to Savannah. There where a lot of pottery shards near by with punctuations and patterns so I'm assuming it's some kind of artifact. It measures 7.10" inches the holes are .0011 inches Note the "cut-like" incisions on the broken part and also the two holes (they connect to the inner part of the bone, so if you pour water on one end it will come out of the holes) at first I though they where foramen (where arteries go into the bones) but they look like drilled and most foramen go diagonally into the bone. See for your self! Any comments are welcome! Thanks!

Hi! I found this in a beach in the Savannah River. Its 3.5 inches long and 1.5 inches thick on the middle. It has a weird curveness that you can appreciate better on the Side 4 pictures. It made me think of where the other jaw tooth fits?! I looks like a sperm whale tooth but I'm not sure. Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

I know I really have the bug now. For 20 years I've spent the last weekend of deer season in SE Ga on a friends farm for a hunt with some college buddies. Always a great time. This year I realized it was only 60 or so miles to Savannah GA where I've had some luck hunting a popular dredge spoil location for teeth. So instead of laying around mid day the past Friday as we usually do, I loaded up two buddies and we headed off. Hurricane Matthew had sculpted away a lot of the beach area that usually produced a lot of teeth but we still had some good luck. In a couple of hours we found over 100 teeth overall and I found my second megalodon, albeit a small one. Also got a really nice hemi which at 1.75 inches is bar far my largest of that type. The meg had some great lightening coloration. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the in situ pic and saw what appears to likely be a nice mako stuck in some matrix just above it. I completely missed that due to my heart stopping when I first saw the meg. Good start to a new year of tooth hunting. Next beach trip isn't till April. Already trying to figure out a way to get she who must be obeyed to allow me a quick run to the coast for a hunt before then.

More Savannah River Dredge Items, Help Identifying Please!

All of these items were found in/on the beach where they dredge the savannah river. This is 12 cm long and 12 cm wide. It weighs 2.6 pounds. These 2 pictures are the same item from different views. it is 6 cm long and 4 cm wide This is 2.5 cm long and 3 cm wide and 2 cm thick Found several like these, this one is 5 cm long these three pictures are all the same thing. 6 cm long 4.5 cm long, 1/2 cm thick, striated on both sides.

Found this buried in the sand where they dredge the savannah river. Any idea of what type of animal this might be from? Definitely fossilized bone. Just not sure what it's from or how old it is?
