From the album: Holzmaden
This is a 10 cm long part of an Ichthyosaur rib from the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden. As you can see its kinda damaged. Firstly it was already damaged as i found it and secondly the preparation wasnt optimal as well. Normally you prep these bones from Holzmaden with air abrasive but I only have an air pen. So I damaged it a bit further.- 8 comments

Yesterday I was again in the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden (Lower Jurassic) and I found a really nice tooth ! The tooth is about 2 cm long and 1 cm wide ! I think its one of the biggest tooth I have ever found ! Its a Temnodontosaurus tooth, which is a large Ichthyosaur. In the "Schlacke" (a specific layer) you can sometimes find smaller teeth but such big teeth in a good condition are very rare. I am really happy about this one Especially because there wasnt much material there, so it was a lucky find ! The prep took about 4 hours. - The quarry, where I find this teeth will close during winter so the tooth is also a great completion of this year !

A very nice Temnodontosaurus tooth from the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden (Lower Jurassic). Temnodontosaurus was a huge Ichthyosaur. The tooth is about 2 cm long and 1 cm wide. So its one of my biggest tooth from Holzmaden ! In the "Schlacke" (a specific layer) you can sometimes find smaller teeth but such big teeth in a good condition are very rare. Some more pictures:-

Last week I visited the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden (Lower Jurassic) for about 4 hours and I found many cool things ! Beside of some belemnits I also found some nice teeth. Mainly they are very small but this time I found a nice one. Its a Temnodontosaurus tooth, a large Ichthyosaur, which mainly hunted ammonites. The teeth had robust roots so that they could withstand the stresses of cracking shells without breaking off. The tooth is about 2.1 cm long and I am very happy about this one. In the past I also found some nice Temnodontosaurus teeth but such teeth in a good condition are very rare. You will maybe wonder now about the negative title but as you can see at the pictures the tooth isnt perfect. A part of the root is missing and the surface is a bit damaged. Here are some impressions: Thanks for viewing !

Not really a fossil hunting trip (its too cold and too much snow here ... ), but i found three teeth from Holzmaden (lower Jurassic) in material which I picked up last year ! I am very happy with them, although they are very small and a bit damaged. I am not sure if i post the frst one here already ... Its a 0.4 cm long Ichtyosaurus tooth without a tip. I found it on a rock with a belemnite at the front .... The second one was on a very huge stone ! Fortunately i got a stone cutting machine for christmas so this isnt a problem anymore (poor neighbours ) It should be also an Ichthyosaurus tooth with a length of 0.8 cm and an interesting color ! Sry for the bad photo ... And last my favourite "new" tooth. I found it today in a crate with very old material. First I only saw the tip but the preperation wasnt that difficult ... Its a nice 1.1 cm long Steneosaurus tooth ! Please correct me if i mislabeled something or if somebody can id the further ... Thanks for viewing !
