Why can I only find shark teeth and vertebrae
FossilizedFanatic posted a topic in Questions & Answers
How come I can find (for example in Antwerp) mostly shark teeth and vertebrae and never another part of a shark? -
I spent a few hours each at the North Sulphur River Texas and Post Oak Creek Texas. I had a nice variety of cretaceous finds.

Here are some Bull Shark teeth I was able to acquire since Bone Valley Megalodons are a bit pricey. They are like tiny Meg's. Enjoy!

Fellow fossil hunters! I live in Jacksonville Beach, FL and have been collecting sharks teeth and shells on our local beaches for a decade. I have found some great teeth on the beach (mostly in the winter when the tourists have gone ) but have yet to find a megalodon tooth or even a fragment of one! My father had some beautiful meg teeth in his collection from when they would dredge for beach renourishment, St. Johns River projects, ect. So I know they are out there to find but I've never been lucky enough to come across one. Has anyone had any luck finding meg teeth in Jacksonville? If so, any tips on where to look would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm attaching a picture with a handful of my favorite finds over the years here in Jax Beach, enjoy! -Nikki

These are some fossils that I couldn't quite identify while out looking around an area of land in the Nottoway river drainage today. The first appears to be some sort of bone, my guess is a vertebra potentially belonging to a crocodile, though I am very new to this and am quite possibly incorrect in this guess Next up is a decent sized fragment of a shark tooth that I initially thought to be a young megalodon, but then wasn't quite so sure after noting the presence of what appears to be a slightly weathered cusp on the side of the tooth that is still present, alongside the fact that the tooth appears to have a slight curvature to it Any insight is well appreciated, thanks!

I am a beach walking shark tooth hunter who has been to Myrtle Beach many times and have had a lot of fun finding great white (almost 2 inches) and other shark teeth. I am looking for a seasoned shark tooth hunter who can take me and my wife inland to creeks and streams for a day. I am happy to provide you with compensation for your time and I will offer a bonus if we find any decent megalodons. I will be traveling to SC in mid August. Here is a pic of the teeth from my last visit.

Hello! I recently found this well-worn shark’s tooth on a beach in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The serrated edges of the tooth are worn down but still visible, although it’s difficult to observe in the photos. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to what species the tooth could possibly belong to? Thank you so much! Take care-

Hello TFF, I found this mammal tooth recently at Sharktooth Hill in Bakersfield, CA. It's about .5" long and looks like a bit of the enamel has broken off. I think it might be a Neotherium mirum tooth but I'm hoping someone more educated can nail it down for me. Thanks for the help!

I was fortunate enough to travel to Ernst Quarry near Bakersfield and spend a day digging at Slow Curve. In that day I came away with a LOT of teeth and a promise to return at some point in the future. I have a better idea how to approach the site now, and I want to find that elusive Megalodon tooth that I missed this time around. I went with a family member, and we found a lot of teeth. I did a rough count at over 350 teeth total (that does include partials), with the grand majority being very small. Which was perfect for me because I ended up using 3 gem boxes for everything when I'd originally planned for two haha. Lots of makos (big tooth, hooked, and a couple narrow toothed), tiger shark, basking shark, requiem and black tip sharks, Dasyuris and myliobatiformes rays, 1 porpoise tooth, 1 whale tooth, angel shark teeth, six gill and seven gill shark, and 1 Hemipristis. I found a TON of bone fragments. I couldn't pick them all up of course, but I tried to pick up most of the larger ones with a few smaller pieces to. I have such a hard time leaving any fossil behind. Also found 2 small fish verts and a larger shark (I think) vertebrae. Along with a couple partial whale vertebraes and there might be an astragalus sitting in there to. A couple of my rib pieces have feeding wear on them. No super big teeth, but my biggest guy was a tad over 1.5 inches. The color of all the teeth astounds me. It's like I have a paint pallette of teeth. Whites, beige, tan, orange, pink, blueish, purple, etc. My favorite tooth is a smaller little guy, but he has a mix of purple and white color with white and black lines across him (see below). All in all it was a very productive day, especially since it was my first time out there. It'll probably be a while before I can come back, but I know I will be back again some day.

The peace river was still low so I decided to try my luck, ended up finding some decent stuff and two mystery items. I think the first is a pathological mako tooth but I’m not 100% and I don’t know anything about the bone so help is appreciated!

Hello, I found this tooth on a beach in New Zealand (north island) in 2006. I am wondering what it is from? It is about 10cm long by 6 cm wide (at top), and all white as can be seen.

Here’s a small group of items I found in the North Sulfur River (Ladonia, Texas) over the weekend. I’m curious if A,B and C are coprolite? I’m wondering what species the shark tooth is as well. Thank you in advance!

4.13” Orange/Tan Bone Valley Meg for Trade
Tracer Jr. posted a topic in Member-to-Member Fossil Trades
Hey guys. I am offering up a 4.13” Bone Valley meg from my collection for trade. Absolutely massive tooth for the location and in incredible condition. Only flaws are two feeding marks, but the tip is intact which is hard to get in BV, especially on a tooth this size. Incredible color, amazing bourlette, sharp serrations... just a killer example that doesn’t come available often. No repair or restoration of any kind. I’m looking to add more Peruvian teeth to my collection, specifically a meg. Also always interested in 6”+ megs or high quality megs from any location. Let me know what you have! TJ- 1 reply
