I found this fossil a few years ago along the Orange County, CA coastline. It was already partially smooth when found but I polished it a bit. Looks to be some shell fragments, possibly clams or oysters, mixed with silica and other local material.The colors are beautiful. Any thoughts on what the fossils may be? measures 7” x 5” x 3” and weighs roughly 5lb. Thank you!

This is a shell from Lightning Ridge, Australia. It had something on it. Is this periostracum? if so how was it preserved in 3D. All images but the first one were taken under a microscope. Thanks!

I found this specimen in Pahrump, Nevada. I'm a rockhound and just now getting into fossils. It caught my eye because the nodes on the outside resembled Coral. The thickness is about 3/4 of an inch and looks sedimentary. Sideways it appears like it was once oval or round. It's 3 3/4 of an inch long. Any help would be appreciated and thank you! New to the forum nice to meet you!

I bought this shell fossil in a small local street stall selling artifacts in Lima, Peru. It was surely found in Peru. I'm afraid the seller (and therefore I) don't know anything more about it. Presumably its a bivalve with distinctive pimples along its ribbing. Any chance someone can identify it?

Hi! My family just returned from a vacation to the Riviera Maya near Playa del Carmen and we are curious if anyone could help ID this piece my 10yr old found while sifting in the surf. Apologies if it’s not a fossil at all, but it looks very different from any of the fossilized coral and shells we found. He has been calling it the “Claw” but hoping it is actually a shark tooth, but we do realize shark teeth seem to not be found much in that region. Internet searches have not helped me narrow down the possibilities, but those searches helped me find your forum. Regardless, we love this piece and we think it is an awesome find! Any ideas/help is appreciated! Thanks!

Echinoconchus Shell -
Hey, found this fossil in canyon in the Carmel formation, Israel, lying loose on the surface. It, unfortunately, completely consists of chalk and is pretty fragile and not very clear, as a result. I suppose it's a some kind of a round shell. I really hope these photos will be good enough, it's not that clear because it all is just chalk. Do you have any guesses what it can be?

This has been in my garden at my home for over 23 years. It is extremely heavy 17 lbs 10 inches long and approx. 13 inches around at the largest point. Oval shaped with a strange shell like coating. Thank you in advance for any ideas. IMG_1026.mov IMG_1026.mov

These oyster shells have small holes in them that appear to tunnel through to the other side. Possibly the work of some type of worm?-

Found this in a bag of Miocene-Pliocene micro matrix from Aurora Fossil Museum in North Carolina. I apologize for the less than stellar image, but this object is only 2mm long and my microscope cam is at it's limit here. It is hollow. The larger end is circular. The smaller end is obstructed by what looks like a portion of a missing bit at that end. There are no holes in the basket-weave outer texture, so not bryzoan. The surface is somewhat dirty as I was afraid of losing it if I tried to clean it. I can't find any matches in my Miocene library. I don't have much on Pliocene or later. Might also be foram, mollusk, or worm. None of those have cancellated ornament on that shape shell/test. Does this look familiar to anybody?

Found this for sale somewhere, they are advertising it as a gar scale, but I don't think it is, although I could definitely be wrong. My first thought was maybe a scute of a crocodile, but I think that is also not it. Any ideas/ Thank you so much everyone in advance!

Found these on a beach near Santa Barbara California the shell was sticking out of a cliff wall the other which I’m not sure if it’s bone or not I found on the beach. What type of shell? And is the other bone or just a rock. Thanks

I found this on my first fossil hunting trip to the South Dakota Badlands, but it could have been anywhere in the Black Hills area. It looks like, to my untrained eye, a shell of some kind. pic is front and back. Any help? And how would I give it some luster? Thank you for your time Jeff

My first attempt at identification. I hope the pic sizes are ok. I found this in South Dakota. It was my first attempt at finding fossils. Either at the Mount Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood or Badlands. A local expert said it was a shell, possibly ammonite. I'm hoping for a verification. These pics are front and back. ALSO, it feels quite solid but it does have cracks. I was planning to have it made into maybe a necklace for a friend, possibly in a macrame setting. I'd like to make it more solid first. I'd like opinions for how to do this. I've read many ways and products but the opinions are widely varied. Thank you for your time. I have two more fossils and will put those in their own posts. Thanks, Jeff
