I am considering letting go a few of my mammal fossils but want to know the ins and outs of the shipping process. What’s the best and safest shipping, fed ex, ups etc.

Hi, I ordered a keich fossil online and it got broken in the mail. I can fit the pieces back together pretty tightly. Can I just use regular crazy glue? Or gorilla gel? Or is there a special way that fossils need to be repaired? I'm new to the hobby and this was my first expensive fossil purchase.

I was curious how you guys pack your fossils to ship or move. Whats better to put them in to keep them safe and unbroken? Bubble wrap , peanuts? I'll be moving soon and wanted to know whats best. Thanks!

Was wondering if anyone has experienced any shipping problems with the whole lockdown thing going on? Having a package shipped from Europe soon and was worried it would be held at customs for a long time due to shutdowns everywhere.

Greetings kind people, Hope you are having a lovely day today! After weeks of research I decided to purchase my first set of fossils. But I'm worried about the rules and regulations here. Is it illegal to buy and import fossils here? Also I remember someone telling me importing antiques and minerals to India are extremely costly. All I need to know is, if someone from India has purchased from an international website and shipped it to India. Did it arrive safe? Was it super expensive to import? Did you have to face any legal penalties? Please help! There seems to be no information anywhere on Google, no one purchasing fossils from international websites. Customs website doesn't talk about fossils either. Thank you

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little advice on how to ship heavy fossils internationally (from the USA to the UK). I thought the forum might be a good place to ask, as quite a few of you may have done this in the past. I have the opportunity to purchase around 500kg (around 1000 pounds) of small fossils from someone in the US. I'm sure I've read members discuss sending fossils back from Tuscon in the past using shipping containers and guess this would probably be the best way to go. Any advice on how this works would be greatly appreciated.

PSA: If sending a fossil out, please take a pic of the address on the parcel
-Andy- posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Hi all, a friend of mine has lost a fossil of almost $1,000 in value because the parcel was delivered to a different address (in the same country) even though he had a tracking code. The local postal company claimed that they delivered to the address as stated on the parcel and the tracking code. They refuse to tell my friend which address they sent to as that is confidential information. The seller meanwhile stated he wrote down the address exactly as my friend specified, and that he checked my friend's online and Paypal as well to triple confirm that was the correct address. Right now, the seller claims he wrote the correct address. The postal company claimed they delivered to the address they were given (which isn't my friend's address). Neither side is giving in much to my friend's horror. This headache would be solved if the seller had only taken a picture of the address he claimed to ship to. It only takes 10 secs to snap a picture, but it could save you a $1,000 disaster. Sellers, please take a picture of the box. Buyers, please request for a picture. -
Hi all, Many of us have had experience with shipping, let it be with fossil trades or with new purchases. Often, I see people in the US saying "will keep postage within the US", as otherwise the shipping costs will be too much. And I do see that sometimes incoming packages from the US cost about 22$ just for an envelope, or 34$ for a small parcel! For me, those are exhilarating prices. On the other hand, shipping from the Netherlands is very inexpensive. Sending (internationally) an envelope of: - up to 20 grams costs 2,66 euros - 20-50 grams is 4 euros - 50-200 grams is 7 euros I usually only send mall fossils, so very rarely parcels, but even with parcels the prices are much lower than in other countries. (Those prices are without Track & code, and without signing) Anyways, I was wondering, what are your shipping costs (for international)? I can make a graph if you want showing all my shipping costs, if people are more interested. Regards, Max

Hi, I recently purchased some fossil titanothere teeth on eBay. I don't think the seller had ever sold or shipped a fossil before, when it arrived and I picked up the box it became immediately clear that it hadn't been packed well. When I opened it my worst fears were immediately confirmed. Lying there in a single piece of bubble wrap was my fossil in pieces . I'm hoping to repair it and I was thinking of using some plaster and paint certain parts black to repair it but people here are much more experienced than me and usually have better ideas then I do. Here are some photos:

I'm looking at buying some vertebrate fossils that are in the US and I am trying to decide whether I should get them shipped directly to my house in Canada, or get them shipped to my US address and drive them across the border. Because of the expensive brokerage fees and shipping costs to Canada I'm looking at other ways of getting the fossils. I've heard of experiences with invertebrates but nothing involving vertebrate fossils. Would I need any extra paperwork? I'm probably going to call the border services but was wondering if you guys had any experiences doing this before.
