    Holiday finds

Found this perfect Speeton Shrimp in the first 5 mins of my holiday ! then a new find for me is this Lobster which i need to put a name to yet both finds are from Speeton on the Yorkshire coast UK. Meyeria Ornata (Speeton Shrimp) Lobster and the Meyeria Ornata Cheers John
  2. As I was putting together labels with photos containing microscopic images of inclusions in coprolites, I came across something that I may have misidentified as a fish tail and vertebrae in a very small coprolite. After looking at it again, the tail looks more like a shrimp or crawfish tail than that of a fish. What I thought were fish vertebrae, look more like crustacean arm joints/elements. Can anyone please confirm this for me? Thanks a bunch! Formation: Oxford Clay (Jurassic - Callovian) Location: Orton Pit, near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England

    Lebanon Shrimp or Lobster?

This was labeled to be a Carpopenaeus sp. shrimp from Lebanon. I had a sneaking suspicion that it may not actually be a shrimp, but perhaps a lobster because of what appears to be claws so I purchased it. I was looking for second opinions on this fossil and will try to update with a closer look when it comes in (shipping is overseas and will take a while though).

    Squashed Mazon Creek Crustacean?

This is another piece from the Mazon Creek Chowder Flats site, it was shattered into quite a few pieces, but I was able to reassemble it. However, I can't tell what it is. I am certain it is some kind of crustacean, based on the texture and color of the shell and the presence of a long segmented antenna. But it seems to be rather flattened, and I can't make out many other details. There does appear to a segmented piece extending from the top edge of the blob to the edge of the nodule, but I can't make out any clear segments or limbs. The shape is reminiscent of Mamayocaris, perhaps just a poorly preserved one? The only other Essex Fauna crustacean that seems to roughly match the squat shape is the rare Dithyrocaris.

    Carbon Film Plant/Arthopod?

Does anyone know what this fossil is? It might be a pseudo fossil. It was found in Liberty, MO, USA. Pennsylvanian. Fossils found near it include crinoids, shells, and other marine life.
  6. I found this Kallidecthes richardsoni Saturday at Mazon. It's preserved in the "life position" which is rare. But also it's tail is turned and fanned out from the dorsal side, which gives this quite the "fiji mermaid" look. This was my best find of the day (that was open) and my best example of this species so far. Also there is an eye stalk present which is a bit strange. I didn't think this species had eye stalks. Jack @fiddlehead have you seen eye stalks in this species before? And have you ever seen this tail fan preservation before?

    Hastings, England

These are a couple of things found at Rock-a-Nore Hastings, East Sussex, England One is Tempskya erosa a complete section of trunk. The close up shows the detail I absolutely fell in love with. Found on a day trip to visit my geologist friend who took me along the foreshore from Hastings, the weather was absolutely horrendous but, I always walk with my eyes on the ground and picked up this beautiful example on the way back after finding nothing. I seem to find something each time I go out with him on a field trip and each time he says 'how do you do it'. The other one is from the same place but not found until this year when I bashed a not too promising bit of rock. Photos of this Conchostracans Clam Shrimp are now used in his lectures as they are better than the ones he has. . They are often mistaken for bivalves. Sorry no scale on that photo about the size of your little finger nail and at the limit of the macro on my camera lens, just a plain digital, nothing special.
  9. The bad weather gave me time to spend some time classifying. so i spent some time on my albian stuff. Everything has been self collected (surface collected) over the years. Everything is also small, so i chose the screws cases to store them. Everything can be seen on a dedicated galery on TFF : here or in higher resolution on my flickr : here 8 cases... So here we go Ammonites : (3 cases) then crustaceans (2 cases) : Other inverts (2 cases) : And last one : vertebrate remains I hope you enjoy it. that's all for now.

  11. Earlier this week I got the chance to get out for a hunt at a great site on the east coast of Scotland for the Lower Carboniferous shrimp Tealliocaris woodwardi. The specimens here are beautifully preserved but decent sized blocks of the right bed can be hard to find so I was really happy to get this large multi-block with three well preserved shrimp, and in both dorsal and lateral views! The largest shrimp is 34mm. Thanks for looking Sam

Is this a shrimp in burmite amber ?

Is this a shrimp in burmite amber or insect larvae ?
  14. Hello all, As each year i made my trip to Troyes and her albian layers in Champagne. On the first day, we decided to head to a first exposure on the bank o the lake. We didnt find much : a few small ammonites, gastropods, bivalves and corals ..... also a few crab fragments, but definitly not much to brag about.... Most of the spot was covered by a layer of dead waterweed, hiding everything. After a quick meal we decided to head to spot 2, another spot by the lake. At second spot, it was even worst : the whole exposure was buried under dry weed. Since there was not much reason to keep on we decided to call it for the day ....with a very very poor loot. On second day i headed alone to our third spot, harder to reach. After a quite long walk in the mud, i reached the exposure. That one was totally free from weed. The spot was very rich. 90 % of the stuff i collected were crustacean parts. Actually the only intersting stuff... but very interesting As a teaser, here come a group view of a part of the etyus martini carapaces i found. The most abundant crustacean of the day. Stopping it for today, to be followed a trip in the numerous species of crustaceans i was able to find.... See you soon
