  1. Hi I’ve been to some fossil sites over the year including: batesford quarry, Beaumaris fossil site and jan juc, but I’ve been trying to find more places online but unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any places on small forums etc mostly just the popular places most people know of. If anyone knows of any places that they are willing to share or talk about I’d be greatly appreciated and if you don’t want the place as public info I’m open to private messages
  2. I'm trying to find new fossil hunting sites. I know that hogtown creek in Gainesville has some areas where you can find small megs and horse teeth, but I am not sure what parts of the creek they are in. The only area in hogtown I have been too has only centimeter or less long teeth, though there are hundreds. Does anybody mind sharing any sites in hogtown or just in Gainesville in general. Feel free to PM me or tell me what forum I should have put this in (I know it's probably not this one) thanks!
  3. Hello! I have always loved Ptychodus teeth. But where I hunt they are extremely rare. Are there any good sites in Europe that has Cretaceous Ptychodus and or other shark teeth? I have heard something about seine-maritime in France. Regards - Adriano.
  4. Hi All, I am not looking for anyone's special spots or anything but could anyone help point me towards legal areas to hunt anywhere within 2 hours or so of Ocala? I do understand how sensitive spots can be so I want to be clear I'm not look for directions to your favorite holes. I will not dig banks or anything and will leave any areas better than I find them. I do have a fossil permit, sifter and kayak if that helps. Everytime I find information about potential rivers or streams that sounds promising I find other information that
  5. Hi everyone! My wife and I are driving to Wyoming and western South Dakota in three weeks. I’ve been searching the forum for some nice fossil (and mineral) sites, and the number of sites in this area are plentiful and overwhelming! We are going to hit the Blue Forest and look for petrified wood. We were also going to hit the pay sites in Kemmerer, WY but they are not open until Memorial Day. Does anyone have suggestions for “must hit” public fossil sites? I can read geologic maps and have access to geology/paleontology journals, so a formation and general area would be g

    New York Spots?

Anyone know of good places in NY (close to NYC and Long Island) for fossil hunting ? Penn Dixie is way too far and I heard there are some good Devonian fossils in the Catskills. Any spot where I can find a sea scorpion or trilobite ?
  7. Hello, everyone! I will be in North Carolina on a family trip for the next week, but I’d like to do some fossil hunting as well while I’m out here. I’m in the New Bern area specifically. Does anyone know of any good fossil sites in the area where one can collect? Thanks!
  8. Aloha! Planning a short trip to California before I move further away, I was always fascinated by fossils. Are there any dig sites in California that rent out tools? I would love to find a trilobite or ammonite! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
  9. Hey guys, I live in south Florida and I have been trying to find good locations to hunt for fossilized sharks teeth. I have gone to peace river with my boyfriend before, but we want to try and look for locations that would be closer to us . Please please please help!

    Pennsylvania Fossil Sites?

My son (9 years old) and I are hoping to find a spot to look for fossils. We have only been hunting a few times before in California. We’re on vacation in Pennsylvania, in East Stroudsburg (1.5 hours - or so- East of New York City). We came to ski but I have been reading that this area could be good for fossils. Any tips on sites or features? I really don’t know anything about the area. Personally, I’d rather pull over in the side of the road or hike somewhere than go to a pay-to-dig site. Thanks for any advice you may have.

    Fossil Sites in Maryland?

Hello, I am in Maryland (near Annapolis) and hope to take my 9-year-old son fossil hunting. He really enjoyed our hunt in Pennsylvania (Beltzville) last week. I have heard of Calvert Cliffs (any advice?) but would also be interested in other sites. We could drive to sites in southern PA, northern VA or DC. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
  12. I am on way to Missouri in the morning. Going to be staying at lake near Branson so just wondering if there are any sites that I could check out
  13. I'm a bit new to fossil hunting but was looking to try some this summer. I've been looking for sites from multiple sources, and was wondering if anyone had any good locations to recommend. I live in the Tampa area, and am looking for fossil locations around the region between Tampa and the Peace River. My largest concern is flooding of the river and that it will be too deep. Are there still other options? Does anyone have recommendations? Thanks
  14. Don’t worry, fossil collecting sites are all around, and may be easier to find than you might think! Here in my area of Kentucky, we have landscape rock that is sold as “local river rock” at about every garden/landscape center. This “local river rock” contains a lot of fossils. From brachiopods, to horns (corals), and bryozoans, etc. It is also very inexpensive. Many people in my area also use crushed limestone as a covering for driveways and parking areas. I have found many a trilobite in someone’s driveway. Finding fossils this way isn’t the most glamorous or sc
  15. could everyone name there favourite or the best dinosaur fossils hunting sites and quarries in the UK? Also, what place would smokejacks quarry, surrey and compton bay, the isle of white be ranked?

    Reno, NV Fossil Sites

I will be spending some random time in Reno (Sparks actually), NV over the next couple months. Does anyone have a few sites they would be willing to give me the details on for some collecting when work allows? Send me a PM if you don’t want the general public to know. Any possibilities would be greatly appreciated.

    Tucson trip

Hi all, I am going to be in the Tucson area for 10 days soon. Is there anything to collect in that area (say 120 mi radius). I have never been to AZ. If you have some collecting information to share please PM me. Thanks a lot. Herb
  18. Hello everyone, I don’t know if I put this in the right place, mods and admins feel free to move it. I am getting jealous of the transitional Otodus and auriculatus I am seeing from the Potomac. These, I assume, are from the Nanjemoy Formation. While every now and then some of this will wash to the Paleocene aged Aquia Formation of Purse state park, it is not reliable. I’d like to hunt Maryland’s Eocene so I can cross that off my list. Now there is also the secretive Old Church formation which exists, but I have not heard much about it. Are there any sites that are accessible
  19. I'm going on a fossil hunting trip to Mitchell, Oregon in about a week, I was wondering if anyone has recommendations on places to look. This will be my 5th or 6th trip to Mitchell, so I know the area fairly well.

    Denton, TX Fossil Sites

Does anyone know any good fossil sites in Denton or Wise county? I am particularly looking for shark teeth but anything will do. I have fossil hunting fever and would love some interesting new places to try.
  21. I will be going to Utah in a few weeks. I will be spending about a month there and will have time to get out and fossil hunt. Are there areas of the Green River Formation that are open to fossil collection?
  22. Okay guys, I’ve managed to get some cheap air tickets (£20) to Milan from the UK. Airbnb was good to me too at £25 a night. Anyone know of any sites, museums or shops in the area?
  23. Hi all, A few times now I have found fossils in Manitoba (posted a few times here for ID as well). My question here is the following: Is it legal to bring home fossils that can be found on beaches? Mine were found in an area used to access a winter road. That road is no longer in use but quite a large selection of them can be found as loose rocks on that same beach. If one doesn't take them home, they will be destroyed over time. I'm not trying to take the discussion to whether it is better for the fossils or not, simply to see if it is legal to take them.

    Florida panhandle

I am going to be at Eglin AFB near Pensacola, FL soon. Any info on collecting in that area would be appreciated. If you have any tips please PM me. Thanks.

    Heading to WV This Weekend

We are heading down to Athens, WV this weekend to visit some friends who just moved there from the midwest. None of the four of us knows the area. Anyone have any suggestions for a reasonably short road trip to do some hunting in their vicinity?
