Hello, I came across this listed as a piece of Cro-Magnon skull, specifically the right parietal bone. Age seems to be Pleistocene, and it's said to be from a gravel pit in Poland. I was wondering if it looks correct and legitimate? It certainly looks like a skull bone of some sort. I did find this post that discussed another supposed Cro-Magnon bone (seems like it turned out not to be one), and there may be some legal/ethical concerns here as well. Perhaps I need to consult an anthropologist? Thanks.

I ended up buying this piece, and probably should have posted it here before i did that.. but here are two fossils listed as Ankylosaurus skull piece and scute. Can anyone here give their opinion on it? I don't have county, but it's from the hell creek formation, south Dakota. The largest piece is 10 cm long. @Troodon

This was found in north Dakota This site has just been exposed there's been a 2 year drought and a lot of high winds , we also found Folsom points ,ultra thin halfted knifes , all made with knife river flint ,a lot of large preforms with Paleo flaking, points were sent to Jackson galleries and were authenticated as Folsom, This skull looks like it's from a very young bison , the way the horns seem to be bending is different from a bison antiquus , They look to be bending downward, Tip to tip it's 24 inches,

Hello all. I picked up a mystery specimen. It's from the Kem Kem (Tegana Formation), ostensibly. It weighs 1.5 pounds. The skull has hollow cavitiies (air sacs?) inside, but I can't tell if they're air sacs; for arteries, or for nerves. They're definitely not mere 'holes'. I spent hours cleaning out pebbles and tiny/flat river-worn rocks and red matrix that filled almost every one of the holes that you see, so almost all of the holes were open pathways when the creature was alive. It was sold as Carcharadontosaur, but with an emphasis that it's not known what bone it is. The bone is solid/heavy, even with the open passages. The only two body parts I could think of are 1) skull fragment, but I have no idea what part. 2) A partial vert: It looks like a neural pathway that runs between a vert and the spinous processes. However, I've not known vert processes that have this shape. Any educated guesses would be deeply appreciated. Please note that the last 'image' is a video; it provides good context for orientation. I can post additional photos if that helps. IMG_2513.MOV

Found this in the water near the fossil beach of Westmoreland State Park in Va. Seems like a whale / dolphin bone, but what part? Is it a vert piece? As always, thanks for the help.

Is anyone able to help with this bird skull from Yixian? The skull I think is twisted upside down. With its eyesocket at the bottom. Also is that bits of feather? Does anyone recognise which species? I do not think confusciornis as they are rounded on the top. Plus, the crest near the feather isnt presant on confusciornis--if it is a type of crest. But if I have the skull orietated right, the crest is on its lower jaw?

Good day. Recently got this mystery specimen from the owners of an extremely productive and well-known ranch in Powder River Country, Montana (please see photos). The specimen was found by the owner. Unfortunately, this specimen is not like those. Here's the only additional info: "This large piece of skull [?] was found in one piece. Weighs approximately 4 lb. 3 oz. The measurements are L 7 2/10" W 4 3/4" No repairs. Color is various shades of brown. Some of the openings actually have some matrix in them, but I left that, in order to stabilize the thin walls." I know it's particularly hard to ID a piece like this from photos, but if you have any ideas, I'd deeply appreciate them!

Saw this listing for sale and considering buying it, looks like a partial cave bear skull, could anyone verify? Also there are strange marks on it, which the seller believes to be scavenger marks, want other opinions on those. It was found in a Hungarian Cave deposit.

*AN EXPERT IS NEEDED* Devonian Vertebrate Skull from New York State
mikeymig posted a topic in Fossil ID
I found this Upper Devonian nodule containing bones years ago. Of course I don't find too many Devonian vertebrate fossils here in NY so I squirreled it away to get it properly prepared and IDed someday. After doing some recent rearranging of my collection, I decided to bring this fossil out into the light. What I know - #1. Its a vertebrate fossil for sure and it looks to me to be cranium elements. #2. The size is 5.5" x 5.5". #3. It was found in the Cashaqua shale nodule layer. I also find straight and coiled shelled cephalopods, wood, and tiny bivalves in this unit. My question is - Do you think Fish? Placoderm? Tetrapod? Any information will be appreciated and what species it is would be a huge help. You can magnify the pics but if you need additional photos/angles let me know. Thank You, Mikey -

Hello together, its been some time since I posted a model, and there are quite a few unfinished ones in the making. realizing how small Atopodentatus' iconic head was in relation to its body, I decided to rather try and print a lifesize skull than a complete downscaled skeleton. Morphing recent species' skulls has the advantage that you get anatomically looking detail, although on the other hand it is wrong detail. So I would much appreciate feedback when you spot something particularly wrong. @pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon? And Atopodentatus took some morphing. Here is how far I got: Best Regards, J

Big Psittacosaurus skull
Big Mac boi posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello I recently found this specimen of a presumed Psittacosaurus skull I have no knowledge about the authentication of this piece the seller claims the skull has restorations less than 10% -
This fossil has many grooves, holes and structures. My only guess is it's a part of a skull of mosasaur or plesiosaur. Any ideas? Or good reference pics of skull parts for comparison? Thanks

Hello, I am new to this community and fossils/bone identification in general. Hope you can help me with identifying a part of the skull I recently found (or at least I think it is a part of the skull). I found the bone recently (May 2022) close to a beach in Malmö, Sweden while cleaning up the beach with my colleagues. I would like to make a nice display stand for it, and I'd like to have something other than "Unknown Species" on a tag. I suspect what I see here are the eyeholes and the nose on a skull bone. First I thought it was a bird of some kind, or some other reptile. But looking at skull pictures online, I cannot recognize anything. Maybe a fish, since it was found close to the beach? I suspect it's impossible to find out the exact species, but at least the genus or the family would be nice. Cheers, Nikola

I found this skull in our field next to our house last week. It was being pushed up from the ground. The photo shows the front R side of the face w/ clear jawline, R eye socket & R side of a crest. I would like ID help, please. We are 1/2 hour south of the WI border. It was near a fossilized, partially opened egg & the limestone-encrusted skull of a juvenile lizard, among other fossils. There are volcanic rocks nearby & we believe that the interstate Rock River was considerably larger, covering our property & bringing those things south to IL.

I' m a local photographer in Flagler Beach, FL. I frequent a local beach almost daily. I have come across quite an interesting find. Currently due to stormy weather causing rough waves and some higher than normal tides the rocks have been sliding down into the ocean and breaking apart. Well a wonderful treasure was exposed in one of the rocks. A skull. There is also a tooth and what looks to be bone vertebrate. I am in the process of excavating currently but would love to know who this skull belongs to. Any help is appreciated!!
