Sorry that the pictures aren't the clearest, they were the best I could get. I found this rock about 10 years ago on a beach in South Wales, and I was never able to figure out if it was a fossil or why it looks like it does. I would be interested to know what caused this. It has ridged spike-shaped marks on it, which are raised on one side (photo 2) and dip inwards on the other (photo 1). Thank you!

Hi everyone, I’m a total amateur but love looking for fossils and have a keen eye (, I’ve done a lot of collecting and have been laughed at by my friends and family for what I believe are some amazing finds! hopefully I can get some validation or advice on what I have found and a lot of tips on prep work etc. I am prepared for criticism so please don’t hold back and just hope these aren’t all plain old rocks!! first topic and a big one! can anyone explain to me in layman’s terms why some fossils seem to be bonded/formed around iron rich metallic objects (nails, bolts, screws) or if I’m totally wrong about that? here are some pics of the fossils with the above mentioned characteristics and my conclusions on identity. Thanks in advance Turtle remains/ vertebrae? A piece of dorsal vertebrae?

Found this literally right on the summit of Pen y fan in south wales in a scree pile. Have had a bit of a research and everywhere says fossils are very rare in this type of old red sandstone... does anybody have any ideas? Its about 3cmx3cm. Well aware it could just be a rock... Cheers!

Hi everyone. Spent a few hours at Llantwit major this afternoon and would like some advice on some finds. Really new to fossil hunting so still not sure when I’m looking at something significant or just another rock. Any opinions would be very appreciated! Thanks first find

Hi I would really appreciate some of your opinions on what this fossil is. I found it in my garden when cutting stones to make a pond. All of the boulders came from this area. I have done a little research on the local geology here and it seems the bedrock is from the triassic. many thanks

Hi everyone, Was at a beach in south wales (LLanelli) with family today and tried looking for fossils for the first time and managed to find this. I posted it on reddit and a couple of people suggested it may be preserved cracked mud, but (to my untrained eye!) it seems more regular and clean than ones ive found on google images, and it has those little finger-like projections which dont seem to be on so many google specimens. Some people also suggested a concretion (which I don't totally understand yet, but I'm reading). Either way I'd really appreciate your input and knowledge. Cant wait to get out there and look for more fossils, I wish I'd started earlier! Thanks for reading

Hi all, I've just acquired what is supposedly a Plesiosaur rib from the Late Triassic of the South Wales coast, dating to the Penarth Group. I am not aware of late Triassic Plesiosaur material from South Wales however. I know that any plesiosaur material (Jurassic and onwards) from that area is somewhat fragmentary, and it would be hard to pinpoint it to any species or genus. But I would still like to narrow down the possibilities. 1) Let's say it is not a plesiosaur rib, what large marine reptile rib could it be? 2) What plesiosaur genus existed in the late Triassic of South Wales? Thank you! EDIT: This rib is 135mm in length and 33mm in width (widest point)
