Has Anyone Used GIS and Remote Sensing to aid in fossil hunting?
Suchascenicworld posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Hello everyone! Fossil hunting is massive hobby of mine and I am trying to find new localities (that are of course, legal). I have a background in GIS and Spatial Analyses (albeit, working on completely different things!) and was thinking about using my geo-spatial skills to narrow down a few areas. In so far, I have layers dedicated to streams, bedrock, and DEM but I was curious if others have used GIS and remote sensing to aid in fossil hunting, and if so, are there any specific layers or techniques that you find to be particularly useful when searching for areas that may have fossils? Thank you!- 42 replies

Synesthesia is a condition (I think of it as a phenomenon) in which one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another, as when the hearing of a sound produces the visualization of a color. Other experiences may be associating colors with letters or numbers, or perceiving sequences (alphabet, numbers, months, etc.) as a graphical construct in the mind's eye. Some Google entries: https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=&oq=synesthesia&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4NDKB_enUS514US515&q=synesthesia&gs_l=hp....0.0.0.7092...........0. I have always distinctly and intricately perceived sequences as positions in 3D 'space', complete with lighting effects at fixed points. This may be part of what drew me into the sciences with strong spatial characteristics, e.g. astronomy, meteorology and geology (especially stratigraphy). I also used to associate colors with letters/numbers when I was a kid, but that has faded over time. I've never experienced any of the color-sound, taste-touch, etc. -types of perceptions, though. Does anyone else experience any of this?
