This tooth is just shy of 4 inches, is this from an adult Spinosaurus? How big was it, based on the tooth size? I’m also curious if the bottom of this tooth is the root or worn enamel.

I bought this tooth last year from a trusted local fossil shop, it was sold to me as an authentic spinosaurus tooth. Is this truly a spinosaurus tooth or is it from a croc (or something else)? Hoping I didnt get scammed.. Also, for future reference, how would I tell the difference between a spino tooth and a croc tooth?

Spinosaurus tooth: real or fake?
Dankenki posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello to everyone, I bought this small spinosaurus tooth some days ago and I'm now wondering if it's real or not. The seller told me that it's non reconstructed but after seeing some stuff on this forum I'm not too sure to trust him. It comes from Kem Kem. Thanks to everyone! -
Spinosaurus Tooth Real, Matrix or Glue
Mister Forelle posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I just got a spinosaurus tooth by my girlfriends dad for christmas and i have a few Questions: 1. Is it real or how much of it is fixed up with some kind of matrix? 2. What is that bright white part glimpsing between the sand? 3. Should i try to free the tooth from the dark/sandy part, to reveal his real beauty? 4. If yes, how? Thank you for your time!- 11 replies

Indeed, more Spinosaurus teeth from me. I appreciate the help that many of you have offered. It's much easier to spot potential issues with more experienced eyes and angles I hadn't considered. I have two Spinosaurus teeth here, both over 4". They look kosher to me barring some minor matrix fill on cracks. Confirmation would be lovely! Thank you, Bellamy First: Second:

I have here a 5" Spinosaurus tooth. The claim is that it has some repair to it using glue, but that it's all one tooth as opposed to a composite. If that were the case, I would be fine with it. However, I have my suspicions that it's a composite. I'd appreciate some more eyes on this!

My 8 year old son has been saving his allowance for some time so he can get a nice Spinosaurus tooth. He will have about 350.00-400.00 saved up soon. I have read several things on repairs and fakes, but still do not have great confidence in what I am looking at. I have found a few sites that appear to be reputable, but I am concerned about spending this much money on a tooth still. I am wanting him to make a good investment and it sounds like Spinosaurus teeth are not all that rare but over 4" seems to be a more unusual tooth. In the 350.00-400.00 range what size tooth should we expect to get? Is there another fossil that would be a better purchase for him in this price range? He already has a 5" and 3.5" Megalodon tooth he bought by saving his money.

This is a rooted Spinosaurus tooth from the Kem Kem basin region of Morocco that measures 7 inches with cloth tape measure along the outer curvature. This is a massive specimen with only minor repair to the tip and some top notch professional restoration to a portion of the root for aesthetic purposes, but the length is 100% natural. Not a common specimen in this size and condition.- 1 comment
