Hey everyone I was gifted a mammoth tooth for Christmas! Was just wondering if anyone knows of any good ways to identify the specifics of which species it’s from if it is mammoth or stegodon or other. Was told it was found in Alaska and there is a quarter for scale

Hi there I have this Stegodon tusk I’m putting on a stand, however I have some worry’s about giving it proper structural integrity. It’s in 6 pieces and when soaked with paleobond and glueing them together with superglue and other applications it would just brake under it’s own weight. I also worry that drilling too far into it to insert rods might make the whole thing split since it’s not really fossil that’s still bone and more straight mineralization, it also chips very easily. Any help on how to properly stabilize it would be appreciated!

Bought a "partial Stegodon tooth" a while back. Originally from Indonesia. Does it look legitimate, and does it look like Stegodon at all? -

Claiming these are stegodon tusks
Hayley posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I’ve been offered a good deal on these tusks and i can’t determine if they are real or not from the photos. I can’t seem to see the Schreger lines from the photos. I have mastodon tusk and mammoth tusk that I know is real because I found it, but this is a bit of a head scratcher for me. Does anyone who is familiar with identifying ivory from photos have a clue? Thank you! -
i want to have an idea of how much tooth is missing from this partial one and if it's a fairly standard size in terms of width. normally the ridges look closer together in other stegodon teeth i've seen. are there any visual ways of getting an idea of how old it is? (wasnt sure where to put this question, sorry)
