Hi everyone, newbie here. I was walking through the woods along a creek in upstate New York and found this rock in the creek. I've never seen anything like it, so thought I'd show it here and see if anyone can figure out what it is. It's about 12" high. I'm thinking it may be a rock full of fossils, but I surely don't want to break it open because I don't know what I'm doing, and don't want to destroy it. I've also searched on the internet for a couple hours and didn't find anything that resembles this

Found in a ditch near in the western lower peninsula of Michigan. I'm guessing stromatolite. What do you think?

Found several of these on a beach in Grand Marais, MN on Lake Superior. The light colored part is a bit rougher feeling and the red/maroon knobs or nodules are quite hard and smooth and raised. I can’t find anything on them…someone mentioned in another forum possibly Rapakivi Granite or Granite Mica Schist but I think they seem a bit different than the images I saw of those. The largest one has a few tiny pockets of crystals. Thoughts?

Hi, I find these now and again, different sizes but similar in shape. Is this just a rock or a fossil? I'm from northwestern Arkansas, thanks.

Found this walking the beach. I assume it’s sandstone. After a closer look I noticed either a feather or fish fin stuck in the middle. Not sure if anyone can see it clear enough to help identify what it is. Sorry, I took the picture with my phone.

Hello everyone, I found an odd rock at my beach in Florida. It looks like charcoal. It’s heavy like cement. Sand has formed rock around the bottom. (Coquina?) It also has rust colors around the sandy parts. It probably has been in the ocean a long time. From looking online, it might be Lignite. Just curious how old it might be and what it is. Thanks everyone!

Hi, my 5year old son found this in Chile, near Cochamo in a riverbed and the more I look at it I wonder how a stone got this texture. Maybe you can help us understand how this happened. It is about 13inches long and very heavy. Thanks!!

Hi, today on a everyday walk with a dog in the forest (in Poland, near Germany) I found half of a stone. There was weird oval thing inside, so I took it home to see if there's some fossil inside. I opened the stone and I found out that theres something inside. It's smal, ~10 mm, but I have only half of it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Well I don't expect these to be deeply Id'd but any information appreciated. I think they are likely fossils unless some interesting geological process caused them... Antalya city beach (S. Turkey, 36.8821897,30.6738092) There are two stones here, the first (9 pics) being rather random shapes, the second stone (last 3 pics) being entirely little circles. Some of the shapes seem rather broad and squared, others very long and narrow, and then the small circles... Many thanks in advance for enlightening me! David

I sifted this up from the Peace River in Hardee County, I thought it odd against the gray and black of everything else in my screen. It's almost like a pretty stone with 50 layers of lacquer poured over it, 3 dimensional in appearance, you can see into the rock.

I found this stone at the beach amongst lots of other fossils and stones. I’ve never encountered a stone/fossil/mineral like this one here in Norway, and I’m absolutely fascinated by it. I’m fascinated by rocks, minerals and fossils in general, but I grew up far away up in the Norwegian mountains. These kind of rocks/fossils I found in Holmestrand is not my field of expertise or knowledge, and I couldn’t find anything that resembles this rocks online or in books on the online library. So I figured that it’s faster to just ask you guys what you think? I do believe it’s a fossil of some sort, but it looks like partly mineralization as well? Or like a different mix of different types of rocks? The bottom reminds me of “Skifer” stone, but it doesn’t quite add up and I can’t verbalize why. The top shimmers in the right light, didn’t see it until my kitten didn’t like that the stone received more attention than him and decided he should get my attention by standing between the rock and my light source(amongst other things). I haven’t dared/had capacity to give the stone a proper wash yet. I’m still a newbie.
