I am not sure where to start looking, but this looked interesting. Not sure if there would be fossils in it, but like I said I have no clue. I am near Forest Falls CA.

Sometimes I find myself at a site, say a road cut, where I want to look for fossils but don’t know the local geology. (For “sometimes,” read “often.”) But I always have my phone, so I can get the GPS coordinates where I am. Is there a way to go from GPS coordinates to geologic age of a location? If there is, it’ll be a lot easier to know what sort of fossils I might expect to find.

What do the strata at your collecting sites, or in the vicinity, look like? What type of fossils do you find in them? What other interesting geologic features are present? I will post some images as soon as I can get to them....
