The places I hunt were over-run for the summer (particularly the place with 'different' cowshark lower laterals), so I took some time off. Less buggy now, beautiful time of the year (most times are!) Hit some old spots, mostly broken. Biggest tooth (hemi) is just over an inch long. Seemed more colorful, but still having issues with scanner.

I drove out to my fossil shed yesterday. I can also see now that I do not belong on the road with a stick shift and clutch! Being that my left foot is numb I also hit the break instead of the clutch a few times! But, made it back home alive with lots of fossil boxes and spent the rest of the day going through them. That,,, was a ton of fun unwrapping and seeing some rather nice fossils for the first time in about 13 years. Here are some of my yesterday finds from the Fossil Shed. Was told this was dino poo? First Aturia I ever found. So glad to have found this beauty again! Aa block of coral I found in Idaho when the kids were young. A sinohydrosaur i bough the day after the two towers went down. Very surreal that day! Opalized belemnite from Australia. A super nice fish from Brazil I still need to finish. Happy to see this guy again! Comptoni vinctifer? and yet another mammoth tooth. This one is quite nice!!! Lots of other stuff but this is some of the better ones. RB

I have some pictures of weird creatures that I had been collecting online(pictures, not creatures), but never getting around to anything with them, and I keep having to delete them to make room, so I figured I'd just make a thread dedicated to the idea, instead of a thread each time there's a crazy knew whatever I come across. Please feel free to give any info or thoughts, answers or questions about anything brought up, and if there's any weird or particularly cool creature you want to mention, go ahead and post about it, preferably with a picture. it's ok if you don't have a picture, for instance someone might not even know what it's called, and can only describe it some. go right ahead and bring up something new anytime, or to bring something from earlier back up, even if it hasn't been talked about in awhile. If you're posting about something that's not currently being talked about, just be sure to either start by quoting something about it from before, or just preface your post with what thing you're talking about, that way people will know what you're talking about, and won't get confused. If something is getting heavy discussion, anyone can start a new thread to move discussion of that creature over, to make it easier, but if you do, make sure you post the link to the new discussion thread, for everyone! *to avoid confusion, if you're not continuing the discussion from the previous post, just be sure to refer to what you're talking about.

Recently I finished sifting through 6 pounds of Lee Creek matrix. There's some stuff I found that I can't quite identify. Anybody that can help me would be greatly appreciated

I know there are fossil preppers out that are very clean and very orginized. Im not one of them. Here is what im used to. Lots and lots and lots of rock chips and dust everywhere!!! And the sheIf is about a 12 inches above my prep bench but the chips really go a flying!! I do have just enough room to do my work but I can see thats it almost time for a 'clean-up'. The thing is, for me, is that if there is rock chips everywhere, then Im doing lots of prep. Belive me, I have to dump at least two 5 gallon buckets a year to the 'rock hole'. It really amazes me that I remove that much rock in little bits!!! But in the end, I end up with some really good fossils. Just glad that I have time to make such a mess! Ha!! Here is a question, "who else has a clean prep bench"? I think not? RB

Hey all: I mostly had been adding to my early forum ramblings in the I.D. section, but thought it best that I start one the proper part of the forum (admins can consolidate if they wish). Pfooley called last week and we went out to the Puerco...constant rains have been keeping us out and even this journey almost came to an inauspicious end as I got us stuck for about 10 minutes in the mud. Pfooley's well-tempered but doubt-ridden counsel helped us get free. We managed to free ourselves and backtracked the better roads to the Dakota formation for some late K searching (Cenomanian?). The rains have really transformed the landscape and that is just about all I have to share as the pickings were slim:

Like many people here in eastern NC my first full fledged exposures to fossils was at the Aurora Fossil museum. Growing up here, I had seen and found my share of smaller sharks teeth and "petrified" clams as we called them, but never thought much about it. Never had anyone able to expose me to the world of fossils.(Plus, I was much more interested in baseball ..... then girls.) After I had grandkids a friend said, hey you should take them to the fossil museum in Aurora. So I did and the rest is, as we say, history. I was amazed at the teeth and everything else that was on display there. The first day in the piles there my grandson Nick(who I hunt with regularly and the one who coined me sixgill pete) found a 2 plus inch meg and a 2 plus inch mako. We were hooked. We went back to those piles tirelessly, as often as we could. We found huge numbers of mako's and tiger's and some megs and some cow sharks. Everything the piles had to offer. Then I got into the mine, wow, I found some amazing things in there, my favorite being the cow shark teeth. But there had to be more, so I found GMR and then all the MM quarries here in the eastern part of NC. Did research and found out about the beaches and rivers and much more. Then I discovered micro's and as many of you know, they are among my favorites. Beautiful little things the eye can barely see, but amazing and in many cases some of the rarest teeth. I also discovered shells, and echinoids. Then came The Fossil forum. Without a doubt, the finest fossil site on the web, great people and a plethora of USEFULL information. And the knowledge here is 5 star A+. I have learned so much and continue to learn everyday I am able to log in. I recently was able to get my first trilobite from fantastic forum member xonenine. Here in NC, there is no where to find them. My collection has come along way since its humble beginnings. So here are a few highlight's of it, some of my favorite pieces.
