Hey TFF Members! Cris and I were able to get out and do some super fun Echinoid hunting earlier this week! We were able to find some very nice specimens from the Eocene. If anyone has an ID on the big thick one I found in the video, please let me know! We got stuck in some nasty storms on this trip, but were also lucky enough to see a stunning rainbow! Coral from the Suwannee River in Florida at least I’m pretty sure it is. I was hoping someone might know what kind or what time period.

My friend and I did about 4 tanks each over the weekend in the Santa Fe above the 41 bridge and the Suwannee downstream of Mayo. I did miss one box of fossils for the pic, but judging by the slim pickings and seeing one guy on a hooka rig on the same spot for 6 hours, I'd say these areas have had too much hunting pressure. The more interesting pieces... A large hunk of mega fauna (giant sloth?) A piece of chert with econoids Half a Herty cup Doll head A large fish vert (sturgeon?) And for the detailed picture of the fossil that somewhat resembles a tooth, I have no idea at all! The surface texture doesn't match what I've seen on mammal teeth before.

I made a decision to stay out of the Peace River until a little rain flushes out whatever is giving me a skin reaction. It's killing me since the river is as low as it gets and we wait all year for this opportunity, but it is what it is. This (Monday May 15th) is the 1st day of a 3 day coral hunt. 2 Days in the Withlacoochee in Georgia and the third day (Weds) in the Suwannee on the way home to DeLand. I put 8 hours in the river today, with decent results but mostly small "geodes". I won't know how well I've done until I get them home, clean them up and start taking slices. I did bring back one pretty monstrous head which I pulled from the blue clay so it's really nice and white. It has a couple promising voids, but until the clay is cleaned off I won't know if it's a museum piece or a boulder for the garden. Either way it was a back breaker. Back to the same spot for a little while tomorrow to see if the pocket has more to offer. I'll follow up with any updates tomorrow if they're worthwhile.
