So I found an older publication that mentions some bluffs and landings on some North Carolina rivers but for the life of me I can't find a map of them or mile posts except for the Cape Fear. It doesn't mention coordinates and mentions these bluffs on the Neuse and Black River in passing. Anyone know of a certain website or page that can tell me where the bluffs are?

My daughter found this in a dry creek bed near our house. I was using muriatic acid to clean it up and noticed it was fizzing and pulled it out and saw the formation. There’s a black and red tar on the back that didn’t come off in the acid and it’s 3.5” x 3.25”. We have found a lot of arrowheads, native American artifacts and what we believe are fossils (teeth, bones, coral) but this one stood out the most. Does anyone know if this could possibly be a fossil? And if so, what kind?

Found this rock at half moon bay in California. It leaks out a black tar substance and I have no idea what it is. It has 4 little prongs that look like tooth roots and it’s shaped like a molar. Any help would be appreciated.

I was able to purchase a large bug collection from the 70's and I am looking to trade two of the doubles. Open to any interesting trades that are not anything very common/commercial. They are both from the McKittrick asphalt deposit Pleistocene McKittrick, Kern County, California 1. Partial dragonfly(pretty sure it is a dragonfly) 2. Partial grasshopper, dilophus(fly), and darkling sp. beetle These are very hard to photograph with my old phone, but here they are.

hi all, I got these as part of a collection. The ID card simply said "bird bone" from the Rancho LaBrea Fm, McKittrick. Honestly, birds are not my forte, but I'm trying, given all the bird material that I have collected from Lee Creek. But I digress... I could use some help with the ID of 4 bones. The two here are long limb bones, approximately 3.5in to 4in in length. As for an ID, that's all I can guess. Help! thanks!

Here are the other two in the series. One is a long limb bone, but the other maybe a tarsometatarsal? The shorter of the two is approximately 2.25 in in length.

I found 3 pieces of this black stuff along the James River in VA (Yorktown formation) It’s porous and lighter feeling than bones I’ve found in that area. It also smells like tar. Does anyone know what it could be? These pieces are 2 inches, but I have another that is a bit longer. The white bits are sand.

Okay folks. This one, I have no clue. The information that was given to me was nominal. That being Western United States, purchased at an Estates sale. I, by all means, am not looking for an exact identification. I'm trying to figure out 1)why is it so dark?/ 2)Dino. versus post dino. mammal? 3)What part of the creature? I'm guessing distal extremity. Thanks!
