Juvenile Sclerocephalus from Pfalz- authentic?
Amontano posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
My friend is trying to downsize his collection and wondering if I'd be interested in purchasing his small sclerocephalus he's had for a while. Looking at it I'm suspicious about whether at least the limbs are authentic. Can anybody help by looking at these photos under white and UV light as to how much of the fossil looks original?- 6 replies

Hi all, We spent yesterday in a different section of the quarry I posted about here. This section yielded some nice fish, plants and even another temnospondyl! Phyllotheca or a different horsetail Xenacanthid pieces Various fish bits A nice nodule with a fish inside I will post some more photos of the temnospondyl once it gets excavated, but here is a loose section from the rear of the skull. After our quarry visit we went to a terrific Eocene plant locality, will post some photos from there next!

From the album: Permian
A "lucky break" in a Labyrinthodont tooth (likely Temnospondyl amphibian) still embedded in matrix reveals the intricate labyrinth of plicidentine.-

Here's a hard one: This is a very nice temnospondyl skeleton (you can see the sclerotic rings!). It measures about 11cm long from snout to what is preserved of the tail. My question is: Can anyone tell me the genus/species and provenance of the fossil? I was told by the previous owner that it was possibly Platyrhinops from the Lower Triassic of Germany, but I have no idea. It looks like maybe a very well preserved Permian age Discosauriscus from the Czech Republic or some sort of temnospondyly from the Pfalz of Germany. I am happy to share more photos. Thanks for the help :-)
