  1. I cant see any sign of composite or fake with my eyes… but I just want to make sure. This is from KemKem and 3-1/2 inches… it is a very clean tooth
  2. How does one reliably differentiate Moroccan Pterosaur teeth from similarly elongated fish teeth? Are there any grooves, striations etc I should be looking out for under a loupe? (Image credit: AJ Plai, http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php...)

    Some type of tooth?

Found this thinking it may be some type of tooth, in Louisiana. Any help please.....
  4. I'm stumped on this oddball. It looks damaged and is suffering from some delamination of the outer shell, but the core is intact and it looks like the entire top chewing surface is visible. What is it? A very worn cetacean tooth? A suggestive broken portion of mammoth tooth? Some other vertebrate critter? Found in the middle Peace River, Bone Valley formation, Hawthorn group - Desoto County Florida. Thanks!
  5. My son found this in our rock bed landscaping. We live with the Dayton, Ohio region.
  6. Hi everyone, I've just signed up to the forum and hopefully will learn heaps from being here. I have only just got back into fossil hunting after many many years. Yesterday i went for a hunt in North Canterbury (NZ) during what seemed like an extremely low tide and came back with a few pieces that were interesting to me, mainly as i don't really have a collection. Anyway while i was down walking the low tide line i was looking at a concretion which appeared to be empty sp i placed it back down and as i stood up i noticed a black thing in another rock. The colours were quite a contrast to each other especially as they were wet at the time. I think this is what i noticed the most but after picking the rock up and examining a little closer the black thing appeared to be a large-ish tooth sitting in a recess. On closer inspection tonight it almost looks like there is another further back still in the rock. Am i imagining this and just being a newbie or is it something interesting like a tooth? The visible part of the "tooth" is about 33mm long and although it could be wear, one side appears flatter than the other. The only other option i can think of is that this is another rock layered within the parent material. the next layer or "tooth" appears to be slightly sitting on the rear edge of this one with a slight overlap like they are partially sitting on each other. The tip of the main feature also looks to have been broken off. Ive tried to take some photos, but i think under artificial light the shape doesn't show as well as i had hoped. If anyone thinks its worth pursuing i can get a few in the sun. This is the parent material with what appears to be a tooth in the upper center A closer view of possible "tooth" An idea of the size A sort of top down view and in the background behind the main feature you can see another layer of the same material just showing through. Any comments are appreciated as i really am a complete newbie and have to learn somewhere. Cheers Jeff

    Strange little Kem Kem tooth

Hello, so I saw this a while ago, and seller has sent me some extra photos. It's a very strange little tooth from Ksar es Souk, Kem Kem. The seller found the closest match being the pterosaur Ornithodesmus latidens at a museum, so assumes this comes from a pterosaur of a similar species. I haven't seen any Kem Kem teeth like this. It is 1.5cm long, has slight serrations. I am wondering if it might actually be a juvenile tooth from Hamadosuchus or one of the other serrated-toothed crocs from there. I see some of their teeth have this triangular shape--though not an exact match. Would love to see others ideas. Thanks

    Weird spinosaur tooth?

Good morning, long short story 2 weeks ago O bought some bulk spinosaur teeth. 7 of them are clearly Spinosaur, but this one looks so thin and weird and doesn't look as a spinosaur. Maybe they send to me a wrong one? What do you think guys?
  9. Hello again. What do you think? Do you see anything wrong with this tooth anything i should be aware of? Thanks

    Help ID'ing "tooth"

I am new to this forum and have very little knowledge of fossils. I would like to know if this rock that I found several years ago in northwest Wisconsin is a fossil or just an interesting rock. Thank you.

    Possible Fossil Land Mammal Tooth

Hello. This is my first post. I have little experience in fossils except perhaps an eye to notice they're not quite a rock. I "think" this is a fossil tooth. Found in Tennessee, USA, Mid-Ordovician area in general; at approx 1,100 altitude in the dry portion of a chronically drought stricken river. Partially mineralized and lying where 100-200+ old trees are. Their roots are exposed; fossil wood can't be ruled out. I appreciate your thoughts. I'm a professional rock hound of 10 years with 60 years of accumulated knowledge. Science has sheets fascinated me; geology is involved in my life's work at this time. But I can't validate this! I'm currently cleaning it to remove some of the calcite-concrete. It bubbles a little in a vinegar solution, but not much. Thank you in advance!
  12. I have several peices of Cretaceous Lens from Eagle Ford and decided to investigate it further, dissolving in vinegar and picking at it and so far came up with these. The one in the matrix looks like tooth or claw maybe, the base of it turns to white but it's eaten away and hard to see in picture. The other things are different, there are quite a few I can see in the big peices some are so small I can't photograph them. Urchin spines are the closest things I've seen to these but really don't know. The pen tip is next to objects for size comparison.
  13. Hello, I was going through my “toss” pile today from my local haunt and I noticed something black and shiny peeking out from one. So, I decided to (for the first time ever) break a find open. I was glad I did because I was pleased to find a tooth! No idea what it is, since it is still very much still in the material I found it in and I can’t match it to something I’ve found before. This is new territory for me and so I’m looking for advice. Should I leave it as is or try to remove it?

    Cretaceous tooth id please?

Hi there, Found this little one the other day on the cretaceous formation (upper I believe) and was curious about the species. Can someone identify? Thanks

    Horse Tooth?

Hi all, I found this while shark tooth hunting this morning in Charleston, SC. It measures a little over 1.5 inches. Is it a horse tooth? Guessing it is partial. Any other interesting information anyone has on it would be appreciated! I don’t know much about them. Thanks in advance!
  16. This little tooth (I think) is missing the crown. Is there enough of it remaining to ID what it is? Or is this some weird partial fragment of mammoth tooth or something like that? Found in the northern Peace River, Florida. Thanks!

    Tooth, Claw, or Tusk??

We found this piece in our creek located in Licking County, Ohio. We’ve been wondering what it was from for a several years now and have never found the answer. it is very light weight. Hopefully someone here can assist us!
  18. Hello! I went fossil hunting with my brother and found a tooth shaped cone! We live in rock county of Luverne Minnesota, about 30 minutes away from Sioux Falls South Dakota. We went to a local river nearby that has a sandy riverbank with lots of different kinds of rocks. We have found a lot of small fossils of shells and some coral-like shapes. I found it near the water where it likely washed up. I assumed it was maybe a coral piece because I don’t know anything about teeth. But Google shows a lot of similar images from both teeth and some coral. I’m just not sure how to go about narrowing down what it is. It has distinct circular rings (like a tree) on the top. The pointy end appears to be broken or chipped. It appears to be just about 3 centimeters long. As much as we both want it to be a cool tooth or something we’re just assuming it’s coral, we really have no idea! Thanks for any help or advice! I can answer more questions and take more pictures if necessary!
  19. So I am completely new to fossils and recently aquired a spinosaurs tooth. This was from a dealer I frequently buys rocks and minerals from but this was new items they had. Just wondering if I can confirm that it is real. It was inexpensive, and I have read they are very common now so it seemed about right. Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Fossil(?) Find

Hi there, I'm not really involved in fossil hunting but my daughter and I found this on a beach in the uk and wondered if you could tell us what it was? It's about 2 inches across and 3/4 inch wide.
  21. Hi, How does this Spino look? It's 3.1 inches, so a good inch bigger than the others I have. The seller says no repairs or restoration, but that tip looks like it might be repaired---although could be a crack. But are there any signs of restoration, or filling or compositing two bits of teeth together? Thanks

    Mystery tooth?

Hey guys, I found this in a creek close to me in south Florida, and while I originally presumed it to be a small, worn down bone upon first glance, further inspection made me suspect it might be something else. It has a unique enamel-like texture and there are rings visible on top. Yet it’s quite dull and tiny, it wouldn’t be a very effective incisor. I’m stumped! I’m hoping someone might have some ideas?

    Possible gomphothere tooth fragment

I found this partial tooth at Myrtle Beach today. I think worn gomphothere, but having never handled one I'm not sure.
  24. Hello all, I bought this megalodon tooth in South Africa a few years ago, and I was just recently curious as to its authenticity.
  25. Hello there. I'm new to fossil collecting and just wanted some help with identifying if this is a real spinosaurus tooth or not. The seller advertised it as real and claims it comes from Morocco. I was recommended this seller, and they've got good reviews, but I think I'm just a bit paranoid after reading a lot of stories about fake fossils. Unfortunately I can't remove it from it's case so I can't show off all the angles. Any help is much appreciated. I'm also new to this site, so if I'm doing this wrong, I apologise!
