I had broke open a rock and found some other fossils but this one caught my eye the most. I am new to this identification thing. So anyone know if it’s a tooth or not?

Hello! This is my first time posting on this forum. I am hoping that someone can help me identify what I have found on the beach of NC. It is < 1in and hollow in the bulbous part (unsure if long part is hollow). It doesn’t look like a typical shark tooth and it doesn’t look like a typical shell found in Wilmington. I have Google image searched images from all different angles and the closest comparison I’ve received is a dinosaur tooth…. But that doesn’t seem plausible.

Picked this little “thing” up out of curiosity. The fellow who found it was stumped as to what it was. It has rough pointed crown and a base that looks like broken root or bone. The crown is covered black or dark enamel. It resembles a tooth in shape but is very rough. I thought maybe an acid damaged tooth? Never found an image quite like it on any site. It was found in the Hell Creek fm., Montana. Was found along with a few mammal and Dino teeth in an ant mound I believe he said. sorry if photos are not as good as could be. It is tiny.

Hi! Awhile back i sorted through some Comanche county Oklahoma permian matrix. li’ve got a lot of pieces needing i.d. But I thought I’d start with this one. Its right at 5mm long in some ways I think it’s a tooth but I’m not sure. Anyone have any ideas? Today I was trying out a new magnifying device so I thought this was the perfect time to ask! Found these two near the peace river wondering if anyone could tell me what they are? I have some guesses but just wanted to make sure, the first I think is some kind of whale tooth and the second could be some kind of tusk but not sure.

A few tips for getting better ID's. First, make the object you are trying to get an ID for be the central object of the photo. Not your hand. Put the object on a neutral colored background and photograph it as close up as possible. Then crop your pictures. Using your hand for scale is no good, we don't know how big your hand is. Make sure the photo is well lit and focused. Second, use a scale rule (preferably metric; millimeters and centimeters) we have members from all over the world. The U.S. is about the only country that does not use the metric system Coins for scale are not good. A member in Belgium probably has no idea how big a U.S. quarter is, and we here have no idea how big a Chinese Yuan is. If you dont have a rule, tell us in the post how big it is. Length, width, height, thickness etc. Third, give as detailed info as possible as to where it was found. State, County, Country, Province, Parish. Was it in a river, a beach find, a quarry? If you know the geologic info, tell us. If not do not guess, if we have the right info on where it was found, that can be obtained. Lastly, don't expect miracles on your items. We are mostly amateurs on here. We can and do make mistakes. If the item is really worn, don't expect an exact Id. But I promise we will do the very best we can, or try to direct you to someone who could possibly ID your item.

Hello, may I know what this is? It comes from Xinjiang, China. This is the only information I know. I asked for help on the forum on behalf of my friend. Is it a dinosaur tooth attached to minerals? Or fossil fruits of plants? Just a guess. Thank you! mmexport1707968651024.mp4

Hey, As a little recap to the last post, a bit ago me and family were working on an excavation project for a house within Caldwell County in Central Texas and accidentally broke through the upper cretaceous layer (namely the Upper Taylor group) and found a bunch of fossils. I'm going to try to post at least 5 fossils every other day going forward so I would really appreciate the help! 1. I have no idea what this could be. My best guess is that it could be some sort of shell imprint. 2. This one reminds me of a vertebrae with the line pattern, but I've never seen a vert this shape which surprised me. 3. Similarly to the other one, it again reminds me of a vert because of the line pattern, but it's so thin so I got nothing. 4. This one surprised me the first time I found it because of its weird design on the top. It almost looks like skin. Not to mention that it has 3 layers which confused me even more. 5. This find is probably the one I am most interested of the 5. The reason being because it looks like some sort of tooth. The reason I say this is because of the texture on the bottom reminded me of a shark tooth root texture. Thanks for the help!

I’m hopeful that I have something special here. Hit me with your knowledge! I suspect it’s a tooth of some sort? In a creek along the eagleford/woodbine border in Dallas County, found this morning.

I recently discovered an opalized fossil from Lightning Ridge, Australia, available for sale online. The seller asserts that it is either a mammal or primate tooth fossil. As I'm unfamiliar with fossils from the Lightning Ridge region, identifying it is beyond my capability. Can anyone help me in determining whether it is a mammal or primate tooth fossil?

Hello, I was hopeful I could be educated on the age and identification on these pieces - they are really neat but I’m feeling very uneducated. If anyone can identify the age and species - I would be most grateful!

Hello. we went on a fossil trip while in Tybee definitely recommend. I found this piece and I’m stumped. Could be nothing but the curve trenches makes me feel like maybe it’s a tooth but there is no root looking areas on any of the sides (all sides in photos) so probably not a tooth. A girl can dream. let me know if you got any other thoughts .

Hey everyone, I found this at West Runton (East coast of England in Norfolk) a few months ago. I kept hold of it because I couldn't decide if this was a fossil or not. So I thought I'd put it to a bigger and more experienced audience. At first I thought tooth, but honestly I'm really not sure. Any ideas? I found it just sticking out of the 'Freshwater bed'. 'The fresh water bed is estimated to be around 500,000 to 780,000 years ago.' 'The mammal remains from this bed can be anything from beavers to vole and even elephants, deer and hippopotamus and anything from deer to mammoth and whale remains have been found.'
