A few tips for getting better ID's. First, make the object you are trying to get an ID for be the central object of the photo. Not your hand. Put the object on a neutral colored background and photograph it as close up as possible. Then crop your pictures. Using your hand for scale is no good, we don't know how big your hand is. Make sure the photo is well lit and focused. Second, use a scale rule (preferably metric; millimeters and centimeters) we have members from all over the world. While combing my local beach in Virginia Beach, I came across this piece. The inside coloring and texture has me questioning tooth, much like some of the broken pieces of GWs that I’ve found in the same area. Shaped like an oval cylinder, about 3 inches long. Tusk? Rock?

Please help this absolute amateur find out anything I can about the tooth I found this weekend. Found in Waverley, South Taranaki (New Zealand). Spotted it in a pile of shell rock in our driveway, just days before it was due to be concreted over. The shell rock came from a local quarry in Taranaki, New Zealand. I know absolutely nothing about fossils but would love to learn more after finding this so please give me any info you may have. Thank you!

I found this a few months ago washed up on the beach, it looks like a worn tooth to me but may just be an interesting rock. It caught my eye because of how much different it is to the normal shells/volcanic rock etc found here. This was found in Costa Rica, Puntarenas province (Pacific Side)

I can't find anything similar in the Florida Fossil Guides, and searching for Tooth ID in florida mainly comes up with Shark Teeth... I'm a complete amateur looking for a little help with something I have not seen before. Found on North Yorkshire coast UK in an area known for ammonite specimens. I have no idea what this is, a shell, a tooth? The ribbed texture seems to wrap around the edge and there are quite a number of areas that have the gold sheen on them.

Hello! I'm pretty new to fossil hunting and I've been able to ID a few specimens but I'm having trouble with these. The ones here are from a couple trips to Big Brook in NJ. I tried my best to take good photos (when will smartphones come with a macro lens??). 1 looks like it could be a tooth or just a rock 2 seems to be porus (I did the tounge test) 3 looks like a jaw or just a rock 4 seems like it could maybe part of a turtle shell? 5 is definitely a vertebra, but I'm not sure from what 7 seem to be teeth or claws 8 is definitely a tooth but im not sure fro

This has the size and J-shape cross section of a dromie premax. It also has the protruding mesial carina that you can see from a distal view. What do you think? Please identify this tooth Found in cretaceous, turonian sandy-limestone in Poland (Górka Pychowicka, Cracow). This rock is amazing, on left there's Ptychodus decurrens tooth too.
