Hi, By opening the unread topics page since my last visit and having activated the automatic French translator (available on the version of the titles with a blue background), the page opens in a language that is not French : It happened to me once yesterday but the normal came back quickly. Today it’s harder to go back to the English version ! Generally I read the forum by opening two windows: the first with the topics not read in order from the most recent to the oldest, and the second in reverse to not answer too late in a topic if I have to do it. The bug is in the 1st window, where I display the most recent unread messages. And when I choose another language, Spanish for example, the result also gives me a rather Asian language. I tried to copy the link from the 2nd page (oldest topics) and choose the display in reverse, but I get the same result. Has anyone ever encountered this problem ? Coco

I received yesterday, a pair of brachiopods of this species, from a Chinese seller, I asked for information, and this is the only thing they sent me. I would appreciate if any member could translate the text, or tag to another member who can translate it. Thanks. It is not necessary to translate everything... just name, age and origin.

Can anyone read Chinese? Translation from dinosaur paper needed!
Paleoworld-101 posted a topic in Questions & Answers
I know this is a bit unusual but i am not sure who i can ask about this. I am currently researching dinosaur skin and am trying to read more about the described skin of the sauropod Mamenchisaurus youngi, which is discussed in a book published by Ouyang and He, 2002 "The First Mamenchisaurian Skeleton with Complete Skull: Mamenchisaurus youngi". I have a PDF copy of the book and the relevant section about the skin is pictured below, but the book is in Chinese and the PDF does not have copy-enabled text, so i can't copy/paste it into google translate. My only option is to find someone that can translate it for me. Perhaps there is someone on this diverse forum that can help If anyone can translate this text into English it would be very much appreciated! Thankfully it isn't that long. If someone is able to translate this, i'm happy for this topic to then be deleted afterwards, as i realise it's not the usual sort of content and probably doesn't need to be kept visible long term.- 3 replies

Now that the fabulous forum denizens have given me the Latin names of some of my fossils, I have been trying to find a way to translate from Latin to English. Partly to understand the ideas behind the name as a way of understanding the animal better, and partly just for fun. I've been all over the Internet and not having much (read "any") luck, so am coming back to the source. I figure there's bound to be a book somewhere that has explanations for biological Greek and Latin names... 1) Anosteira maomingensis (I'm guessing the mao refers to the late Chairman Mao? but am otherwise at a loss.) 2) Periphinctes 3) Orudus 4) Hybodont (shark) I know "dont" is Greek for "tooth" but unclear on the "hybo" 5) Elimia tenera 6) Pleuroceridae 7) Turritellia Thanks for any clarification! Moo
