  1. Hi, just joined from Manitoba, Canada. Love fossil hunting but not really many places to do in manitoba. Mostly just fossil hunt when I travel. Would love to see what is available in fossil sales.

    Time to live the dream.

Hey guys, There is so much swirling around in this brain of mine as of late, but one thought has taken over. I don't want to get too political or philosophical, but I think it is time to leap into that great ancient unknown. I have been a member of this forum for a while now, perhaps I don't post or even login as much as I should, but I've always lurked. Some of you know me, some of you don't. I have been a man of endless hobbies...some would say(especially @Bone Daddy and his wife) that I am a jack of all trades, but a master of none. My passion for paleontology has superseded all of these hobbies, and finally, at 30 something-odd years, I have found my true vice. A tiny bit of backstory: I'm originally from Louisiana, spent two years or so in Japan teaching children terrible English and curse words. I moved backed to the states(Florida, where my sis lived) and started as a temporary employee at a fertilizer company where I learned about the fossils of central Florida's bone valley(that these companies destroy regularly, as well as artifacts). I moved my way up to a supervisor position and took advantage of the company's policy for higher learning. The idea was to become a 'company geologist/paleontologist' and stop the needless onslaught of destruction. I came close...but it didn't happen. Word got out, and my company laid me off, just me...but not before I made them pay for the rest of my degree! Anyway, my investments allowed me a new career and a solid move to Colorado and the Wests older rock. I am a paleontologist in the skin of a geologist. I'm tired of it...I have this life, just the one...and I want to chase my dreams. I'm good at finding fossils. I'm respectful, I do it right, I'm a scientist by nature and profession. I have a supportive wife. The stars have aligned. I'm just looking for advice. I plan to open an online store for fossils. I honestly don't know where to begin. I'm not trying to step on any toes. I plan on making a sweeping search of the west while visiting all the pay sites. I'm just looking for a bit of advice. Sorry for the long post. -J This world and this life is far too tiny
  3. Howdy folks. I just got back from yet another fossil hunting trip and am very sore, very tired and very beat up. Its always been nice to get back from any of my fossil hunting trips and get all cleaned up, have a nice dinner and sleep in a real bed but these last few trips, 2 trips this year to the GRF and now this last one to Washington, but this is the first trip ive done that I was wishing to be home before I even got to our first site! This last trip was planned for 6 or 7 days but I was back home at the end of the forth day! I sometimes was gone for 2 or 3 weeks but this getting older and being fat and out of shape, a bad back and this dang stroke has really slowed me down. My mind says gooooooooo,, but my body says, noooooooooo!!! Ha! Im supposed to go to South Dakota in 7 days but right now I dont have it in me to go? This last trip may have been my last. RB

    Getting permission

So I searched through the forum for this and didn't really see what I was looking for. I'm newer to the forum as well as fossil hunting/collecting as a whole. And I'm curious as to how you guys get permission to search on private property out of state. I like to travel here and there, and would like to make some trips to maybe explore and find some cool fossils in other states. But would hate to make a trip just to get denied access and end up wasting the trip. And I'm just wondering how others may go about it if they plan trips within areas of private property.

    Go west

Hey all. Going out to Vernal UT at the end of the week. Spending a couple of days there, doing Dinosaur National Monument, then a week near Boulder CO. Would love any suggestions of places to hunt while I'm out there. Will also be visiting Florissant and Morrison. Trying desperately to squeeze an extra day to get up to Kemmerer WY to find some fishes!
