  1. My annual information topic on the Tucson Fossil Show. Right now it looks like 43 different shows if you are including Gems, Minerals and Fossils. The latter being the smallest segment of the Show but the coolest . For those of you who went to this years show I don't expect much of a change but we still have a bit of time to go. Unfortunately the show has evolved from from a couple of close venues to now being all over the place. Just take more time and patience with parking. When to arrive: My suggestion is when the dealers open . This will give you the best opportunity to pick up specimens before the online dealers rush in and buy everything especially with Dinosaur material. Not easy since some venues have a hard opening time that coincide with other ones. This is best overall link to obtain information on all the venues https://xpopress.com/showcase/profile/1/tucson-gem-mineral-fossil-showcase Here are the key Fossil Venues that get my attention but you should find Fossils at most venues. Fossil and Mineral Alley at the Days Inn Tucson City Center Official Dates: Jan 27 to Feb 12 however dealers start arriving early in the week and will open when they are ready Vendor Listing: 72 (Up from last year) https://xpopress.com/show/vendors/25/fossil-mineral-alley Highlights: Best venue for Fossils both Shark and Dinosaur. Lots of European dealer with Invertebrates 22nd Street Mineral, Fossil, Gem Show (huge tents) Opening Date: Jan 26 Closes: Feb 12 no early entrance Opens at 10am sharp. Parking $$$ is a rip off... Vendor Listing: 306 ( up from last year) https://xpopress.com/show/vendors/17/22nd-street-mineral-fossil-gem-jewelry-show Highlights: Mostly Trinkets and Gems, fair amount of minerals and some good fossils dealers. Triebold Paleontology typically has great displays. Wear good shoes, lots of walking. Mobs of people especially on weekends. I go but not my favorite place. . Mineral & Fossil Marketplace Dates: January 28 to Feb 11 Main building typically opens on the 28th while the outside tent and container areas can open earlier Vendor Listing: 30 https://xpopress.com/show/vendors/23/mineral-fossil-marketplace Highlights: Very small venue but includes the AAPS, Black Hills Institute and some great fossil dealers (shark/dino/invertebrates) and fossil prep products RMGM Mineral & Fossil Show Dates: Jan 27 to Feb 11 No early entrance 10 to 6 pm daily Vendors Listing: 60 (up from last year) https://xpopress.com/show/vendors/1307/rmgm-mineral-fossil-show-oracle-road Highlights: Relatively new show but with a good mix of fossil vendors and prep products Just further north on Oracle Rd Mineral Fossil Co-op Vendors Listings: 13 https://xpopress.com/show/vendors/44/mineral-fossil-co-op Dates : TBD Parts are open year around but a number of dealers set up for the show. Highlights: Some great dinosaur and mammal displays. Small but nice mix of dealers. A must visit when fully open Kino Gem and Mineral Show Dates: Jan 26 to Feb 11 no early entrance, 10 to 6 daily Vendor Listing: https://xpopress.com/show/vendors/41/kino-gem-mineral-show Highlights: Huge area with BIG tents and lots of them. Has a few great fossil vendors but its a place to find anything you can think of from trinkets to expensive jewelry. A bit south on Interstate 10 at Kino Sports Complex Other places that I always check out Pueblo Gem and Mineral Show Moroccan Tent City (this year they were a no show) No idea for 2023 Lots of venues yo visit and xpopress link above can help. Some Gem locations are for Wholesalers Dealers only so check it out before you go. @historianmichaelsince you asked about the show

    Tucson Fossil Show News

George F. Winters of the Association of Applied Paleontological Sciences (AAPS) just posted this on Facebook. The guide has been very useful to those attending the show. Tucson has yet to put any restrictions on the different fossil venues other than cancelling the Convention Center Gem and Mineral show . If I hear anything will post it. Travel restrictions may be the biggest impediment for dealers to participate and visitors to attend.

    Ammonite help plz

My dad happened to be in Tucson during the fossil show and grabbed a neat sliced ammonite in a box simply labeled “made in Madagascar” (he knows I’m a sucker for any fossil that had a geode develop in a cavity). I’d like to know a bit more about it, but the info I’ve been able to find about the ammonites of Madagascar is pretty limited and makes identifying pretty hard. My best guess is Desmoceras sp. can anyone be more specific or correct me?
  4. I went to the show today to see whats going on if anything.. A number of dealers were already open mostly those from Europe. Here are a few photos At the HTCC venue One never know what you may run into
  5. Here is a quick guide to the key fossil venues of the 2020 Tucson Fossil Show. A list of vendors are in the links I've attached. Tucson Hotel City Center Venue: official dates Feb 1 -15 Details and dealers/displays https://www.mineralshowslld.com/tucson One of the better venues for fossils in general, a few of good Shark and Dino dealers are present. Dealers start getting there early some will open as early as the 27th since most are in private rooms. Most by the 29th. The Main ballroom opens on the 30th where you find Displays and the Black Hills Institute. Pete Larsen is typically there and has had no problem answering questions. Parking is very limited so get there early, they do have remote parking, a short walk. It's within walking distance to the Day's Inn venue. Big venue for minerals and meteorites. This is the last year at this venue will post later whats going on for 2021 lots of changes expected Days Inn (formerly the Ramada) venue - official show dates Feb 1 to 15 An AAPS show guide will come out shortly giving more detail.. Will attach link. https://xpopress.com/show/profile/25/fossil-mineral-alley In my opinion the best venue for fossils especially Invertebrates, Dino and Shark. Lots of high end European dealers. Parking is reasonable Please note dealers get there early so expect some to be open on on Jan 28 and leave early so quite a few are not there the last week. European dealers stay to the end and party cannot beat the weather. 22nd Street Show venue: Official Dates Jan 30 to Feb 15 (no early access like the other venues) https://www.22ndstreetshow.com/ Used to be one of the better shows its turned into a parking nightmare and contains mostly trinket and junk dealers. Having said that there are several key fossils dealers present and unfortunately a MUST visit. Just be prepared to fight parking and do LOTS of walking and complaining. They keep making this show bigger at the expense of parking. $5 to park. Get there before it opens to ease the pain and do not plan to come back after you leave. A short drive south from the two venues just mentioned before. Already erecting the mile long venue tents Co-op venue Official dates January 31 to Feb 16 https://xpopress.com/show/profile/44/mineral-fossil-co-op A couple of dealers are there year around but others are there just for the show. Best to wait to do the other venues first then hit this one. Have an interesting variety of items, fossils, minerals, sandstone and has had a nice dinosaur showcase of museum grade skeletons.. See what this year brings. Kino Show Official :Jan 30 to Feb 30 https://xpopress.com/show/profile/41/kino-gem-mineral-show Huge show separate from downtown. Cool place to visit has everything..and fossils. Big Moroccan tent dealers are located here. Watch out for the fakes. Main Street Venue Feb 2 to 16 https://xpopress.com/show/profile/43/main-avenue-fossil-mineral-show Interesting venue.. mineral/fossil dealers in tents and nice Moroccan fossils in building and a small museum. Across the street is a cool group of Moroccan Tent dealers. Again watch out for fakes they abound, negotiate heavily with these dealers. Overall guide for all the shows. Most venues other than the pure Gem one have fossils... 50 shows and venues. It takes up the city plus https://xpopress.com/showcase/profile/1/tucson-gem-mineral-fossil-showcase
