Upper Carnian/Tuvalian ammonoid fauna from the historical location/ditch on Vordersandling. The shown ammonoids come from a small lense that was found by me several years ago. No coarser ribbed Projuvavites was found only Juvavites bacchus MOJS. Therefore I range this fauna to the dilleri Zone. Tropites aff. subbullatus, Paratropites sp., Discotropites sp., Megaphyllites sp., Sandlingites cf. oribasus and Arcestes sp. -

Small slab with Trachysagenites cf. eximius MOJS.(Ammonoid with nodes, 2.5cm diameter) Associated with Arcestes sp., Megaphyllites sp., Paratropites sp., "Sandlingites" pilari and Isculites sp. Probably lower Tuvalian Dilleri Zone. -

This part of a Triassic/Tuvalian ammonoid lense show probably the lower ammonoid zone(Dilleri Zone) of the Upper Carnian/Tuvalian stage. The upper half of the picture show a few Trachysagenites erninceus(ammonoids with stroger nodes) and a Tropites sp. core upon left. The lower part show Spirogmoceras sp., Traskites sp. and Paratropites cf. multecostatus with Isculites heimi(flat variant) -

Today I started my collecting season. It was a successful day I found several Tuvalian Tropites and Jovites(greenish matrix) alas all a little incomplete. But that doesn't matter because I did it more for stratigraphy. At least I found near this location a Julian Block with ammonoids of the austriacum Zone.(reddish matrix) But it was a very hard work. Two broken chisels (of three) make me nervous on half time because my car was far away.

Tropites torquillus MOJS.(the Big one)div.Tropites sp., Trachysagenites Sp.

From the album: alpine triassic Ammonoids
Slab with Tropites torquillus MOJS.(the big one), Tropites fusobullatus MOJS.(the lower one) and 2x Tropites ssp.(left end and right top) The middle ammonoid on the right end is a Trachysagenites sp. The small smooth ones are Arcestes sp. The orthocone Nautiloid points to the direction of the palaeocurrent. Prepared from the downside. Big parts of the upper side of this ammonoids are disolved due to the strong condensation in this limestone. Stratigraphic range and occurence: Upper Triassic/ Carnian/Tuvalian, subbullatus zone. Hallstatt limestone of Austria. -

Parahauerites sp. Tuvalian, probably dilleri zone. For cephalopod faunal composition of this block please look on pic Stantonites -
Last weekend I did hunt again in the Austrian mountains. While prospecting a Triassic area I found a little fossil lense containing a small Upper Triassic/ Carnian/Tuvalian ammonoid fauna. It contain several Tropites sp., Trachysagenites, Metatirolites, Polycyclus, Megaphyllites and Projuvavites in rather small but very well preserved specimen. At first I found a small talus stone with ammonoids at the flat part of a slope/cliff. It shows a Trachysagenites sp.(2.5cm) Then I searched from this point straight upwards the hill and found a small fossil lense in Tuvalian limestone. I found it in an unexpected position. I think I have to go back and search the area closer. Maybe there is a second fossil lense in this area because the feature of the fallen block looks a little different compared to the feature of the fossil lense. But both are of the same time. Two times luck at one day! Andreas

Slab(ca.30x15cm)with different upper Triassic/Tuvalian ammonoids. In the middle of the slab a Trachysagenites sp. is visible. A Jovites bosnensis(inner core)is directly above. Below the Trachysagenites and on the top of the slab Discotropites sp. are visible. Several other Tropites sp. are visible also on the chunk.
