Hello all, I found these bone fragments all on one spot in Ruwais, Abu Dabi, UAE. I think the third one from left to right is a vertebra of some sort, but I am not sure to whom it belongs. I think the age is late miocene, and it used to be a swampy savanna environment. I have found crocodile teeth, fish bones, turtle and tortoise shell fragments, and an antelope tooth at the same location.

Hello again. After I discovered a big fossilized bone on a hill close the Shipwerck beach in Ruwais, I decided to go searching in the same area for more fossils. I found all of these on relatively the same layer of the hill. I assume they are from the miocene. The first one looks like a crocodile scute. The second one looks like a shell from a tortoise. The third one I am not sure of. I would appreciate confirmation and a possible id. I know UAE fossils can be a bit tricky.

I found this tooth fragment in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It looks to be a tooth from a carnivore, sabre-toothed tigers, and two types of hyenas that are known to have lived here in the Miocene.

While searching for fossils on Jebel Hafeet (a mountain in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, UAE) my mother saw this little fossil sticking out of the rock face. I immediately thought it looked like a crinoid, which was odd since I have never seen one before in this country... I carefully excavated it and brought it home. I think that the fossil is about miocene age, but I am not completely sure, the round things surrounding the fossil are nummulites.

Hello, I wondered if someone can help me identify some fossils I found, please? I am completely new to fossil hunting and don’t know very much at all yet. Yesterday I found 3 beautiful shell fossils half way up a mountain called Jebel Hafeet in the desert of Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, Middle East. Is it possible you could tell me anything about them please? I know the mountain used to be under the sea millions of years ago (the ocean was called the Tethys), so I’m guessing the shells were sea shells, not land shells. They are filled with lovely clear crystals. They also have very small circular fossils on them, I have circled the fossil circles in red in one of the photographs. I have no idea what those are! The shell fossils are very heavy and are the size of my hand. (Roughly 12cm x 10cm / 5”x4” ) Any information you can give me on the shells/crystals would be much appreciated. Thank you so much. Kind regards, Caroline

I found this fossil close to a known fossil site Hamra 1. Most of the fossils there are from late miocene. I have picked up crocodile scutes, fish bones, and many other things at the same location. People have found hyena bones, relatives of ostriches, bovids, and many other animals near the spot. The fossil itself has a few cracks in it that I did not see before removal, so some pieces where broken off. I picked up all the pieces I could see and glued them back on at home.

I found this fossil today on a hill close to a beach called shipwreck beach in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. I have not found anything quite like this before. Hope it can be identified. My geusse is leg bone, but it looks a lot like a jaw with no teeth. I'm no sure about the time period, most fossils here seem to be from miocene.

Hello again, here is my most beautiful sand dollar fossil. We picked it up yesterday on a beach close to Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE. I have found dozens of these, but rarely find one so flat. I would love to know the species name if possible.

I found this echinoid fossil a few months ago. It is about 10cm long, I have only ever found two of these. It was found on a rocky beach in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Hello again, I ffound this bone about 2 years ago close to Mugharaq Port, Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE. It was found in a cliff inside of clay-like rock, it was barely acessable during high tide. It is more then 30cm long. The bone looks like it is made of clay, and was very fragile when i cleaned it, it is now less fragile and hardened. Any clues as to what it is? I think it is some sort of legbone. The town of ruwais used to be a savanna not so long ago, hope that helps.

Hello, I am only 13 but I have picked up a lot of fossils. I don't know what half of the fossils are. I hope you can help. I found this fossil on the Jebal Hafeet nountain in Al Ain, UAE. It is very small. I am curious as to what it is. It looks like some sort of coral. The area l found it in was known for its marine fossils. I also found several larger corals on the same mountain.
