Dear Guys, I recently found some bones that are difficult to me to identify- possible mammoth rib proximal end, rhino zugoma and unidentified radius bone in Late Pleistocene sand layers of Varena Town, South Lithuania (it is Eastern Europe). The width of mammoth rib proximal end is 6,2 cm in the articular part, the bone layer in the cross section is massive. The length of possible rhino zygomatic bone is 5,6 cm and it has specific texture in the skull surface near eye. It is also massive and I see that thickness of bone is about 1,5 cm. The partial radius is 10,2 cm length and 3 cm width in the lower articular part. Any idea what this should be? Best Regards Domas

Here is an interesting one. This looked like a shrimp tail at first but once I cleaned it I saw all of these little bumps on and around what I thought was shell.

Hey guys, I'm new here and to fossil collecting in general and have made a couple trips to Big Brook. I've collected mostly shark teeth and the usual fossils in the area but the other day found this fragment of something. I wouldn't have thought too much about it but it has these odd ridges on a small part of the edge which baffles me and everyone whose seen it. Is this even a fossil and if so does anyone have any clue what it is from? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Des Moines Iowa, and I was down by a creek today and found this possible fossil. It looks like fossilized bone to me. However I am kind of new to this so I can't be for sure. but it feels fossilized and looks like it was bone at one point. if anyone can identify it I would be amazed and grateful, Thanks!

Here are a couple more from the peace river. It is pretty water worn and I am assuming horse, but maybe it is something interesting. I remember thinking it was just a bone, but brought it back just in case. Thanks! Adam

I need some help from the collective brain on this one. It's a real Sherlock Holmes mystery since the only information I have is the collecting locality... Texas! They look rather mammalish and so would be Pleistocene. Giant Sloth possibly? I know there's someone here who can enlighten me.

I just began a trip to the east coast several days ago. I've been hoping to eventually visit some nearby fossil sites: trilobite ridge in PA and big brook in NJ, but was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon some exciting fossils during a walk through brooklyn bridge park! Almost all the boulders lining the park's walking path were full of fossils. No idea how old they are or what formation they are from so any help would be appreciated. Definitely an interesting experience! Here is a link to all of the photos: https://www.flickr.com/gp/143287221@N05/w23180

Hi, I bought this raptor toe bone a few weeks ago. The website said that it is from an unidentified theropod, likely Acheroraptor. Troodon informed me about how not much material has been found of Acheroraptor. And also he said that my bone looks more like a turtle bone than a theropod bone. I think that he's probably right. I just want to hear some more opinions about it. It is from the Hell Creek Formation. Let me know what you guys think!

Hi, I have this "Raptor" tooth from Morocco and it says its Deltadromeus, but I know it's not that because no skeletal material has yet been found. And I'm just wondering if it is from some kind of raptor. I know that there hasn't been any raptor skeletal material found in Morocco, just teeth. Based on the pictures, does the tooth look Dromaeosaurid? Is it still from a raptor? I can post more pictures if needed. Thanks

Last weekend I came across this fossil in a creek bed outside of Dallas, TX. It definitely appears to be some kind of a fossil, but it's awkward shape is leaving me wondering what exactly it is. I'm hoping someone can help me identify what it is and what type of animal it may have come from. Let me know if there are any questions I can answer that may help. Thank you! Ryan

Unidentified Fossilized Tooth Found Today In South-Central Great Lakes Region (Canada)
Great Lakes posted a topic in Fossil ID
I found this fossilized tooth today submerged within the Nottawasaga River (North of Toronto, Ontario, Canada - within the Great Lakes Basin). Can anyone help me to identify it? I've included some scans below. Thanks in advance. NOTE: The findspot is within the vicinity of this location: I'll try some better macro close-up images later, as these scans are not well lit enough to see the detail.- 6 replies

I'm sorry that I skipped the introduction thread, but I wanted to post this in the appropriate area. I am an amateur arrowhead/artifact hunter that just got back into searching after taking a break from it for about 25 years. I am visiting family in San Antonio, Texas and recently while jogging, I saw some flint chips and eventually found a piece identified as a unifacial scraper This restored my interest in searching for more things. Today I went into an adjacent neighborhood where new construction is going on to see if I could find any any other artifacts, and I found what appears to be a large tooth of a carnivore. I do not know the correct terminology as to the layer it was found or what not, but I did include photos of where it was found. The piece measures 3.9 inches in length and approx. 1.6 inches at its widest part. I kept it because the point was a bit more exposed and covered in less sediment than the rest of the "tooth". There were other curious pieces that I dug out close to this piece that I kept also, but nothing looked like an obvious bone or tooth like this one. If I am completely off base, I just need to know. Thanks for taking a look, and spending some time on an amateur like me.

Happy holidays everyone, I was fortunate enough to find a mini-horde of fossilized bone in a small area. This area is near the Tennessee line in Kentucky and is rarely visited. The last time anyone was there was nearly 20 years and then it was logged only. Unfortunately they seem to have ran over many complete bones and I have 2 - 40 pound tubs of pieces. They are mostly end pieces and are nearly all gray. This area is filled with beautiful evergreens and rolling hills and is on top of a 60 foot mound area. getting through the canopy is difficult but once you do it's like stepping back into time. There are even prickly pear cactus growing at the top of this hill, something very unusual for that area. That area is mostly slate yet I still found a few large pieces that are clearly fossilized bone. as one goes down to the path pieces of fossilized bones are all along the side where there is a slight berm that goes all the way to the bottom. the most amazing thing is that despite people have been here, these bones were laying right on top the ground covered by just a little bit of grass and leaves. the round fossilized ball objects of all sizes were so numerous that they were rolling down this path and catching themselves on grass tufts. It was almost like an Easter egg hunt ! I also recovered one HUGE piece that (through days of researching), seem to be a Triceratops clavicle (or in that family) {still needs prepped however]. The item in question was near enough in proximity that it could be part of that skeleton and maybe the humorous bone. it does seem that the ends are missing and this fact haunts me because I would love to find more of this skeleton in this area but it is 2000 miles away and nearly inaccessible by a flight. But despite these clues I have looked at every skeleton real or re-created as they appear on the Internet and have found nothing exactly like it. I hope that someone has an idea because if it is part of that clavicle / shoulder assembly I would like to be sure that they stay together and to knows while looking through pieces I may find the connecting piece. Any help would be appreciated thank you very much. .. jp PS. Happy new year to all.
