Hi. Here’s another item I’m hoping you can identify for me. It’s from a bag of matrix from the aguja formation in Texas. It measures 5 mm in length. It’s a glossy black. I really have no clue on this one. I kind of suspect it’s some kind of seed but ..... im sorry the pictures aren’t better but I don’t have anyway to take better ones. thank you.

Hi guys, I found this the other day in Florida. It’s part of one large tooth, no jaw attached (although it looks like it).

Receiving this gorgeous but mysterious specimen is from Upper Pennsylvanian limestone dated around 290-300 million years ago from somewhere around Kansas City. Looks like a tooth to me and my best guess would be orodus? But I have little experience with Pennsylvanian shark teeth in general and especially from this area, also cannot find a comparison elsewhere online. Any help will be appreciated.

Found in a rock pool on Yaverland beach, Isle of Wight. I don’t know anything about the local geology but the encasing rock is dark grey, quite hard with a texture similar to concrete. I collected it because it looked clawish and a geologist who happened to come by said it looked dinosaury, though palaeontology isn’t his field! There’s no honeycomb in the cross-sections so I think it looks most like part of a big shellfish, but am clueless really. Any ideas?

I don't know the first thing about Fossils. What I have found would appear to be a fossil to me, but I honestly have no clue what it is. Would love to hear your opinions.

Unknown Rare New York Trilobite Pygidium Undescribed??? Lichid?
Kurufossils posted a topic in Fossil ID
Today on a hunt I found on of the most unusual trilobite pygidiums I've ever seen from new york and cannot find anything out there to compare it to. Unfortunately the site is imported material from an unknown quarry upstate so all I do know is that its from the Devonian of New York based on other material found there, unfortunately I cannot attach a formation to this one. Also its also fragile and a very partial piece thats unpreped, I think its a ventral display. This maybe a head scratcher so maybe the trilobite experts here can help weigh in on what this can possibly be. -
Hello! Amateur and fossil noob here. I was wondering if you could help me to identify these two fossils from SE Indiana. The first I found at the railroad rock cut in Madison Indiana* (corrected location below) loose on the hillside as is. Crudely it looks like a twisted up starfish. The second I found in the Waldron Shale piles that the Falls of the Ohio State Park (Clarksville Indiana) sets out for guests like me to dig through. For the second, I wasn't sure if it was a small coral or part of a crinoid. Thanks in advance - I really appreciate your help. *EDIT - my mistake. The first I found in Crawford County IN (Sulfur/English/I-64 rock cut). I had visited a bunch of fossil sites in the area within a few days and mixed them up. Results in millions of years difference!

I found this odd piece in a grey shale layer in a place with devonian age matrix and fossils from new york with various layers from flakier layers compact with fossils to harder layers like this gray shale layer that this one thats not as compact with fossils as the other ones. I am unaware of devonian fish remains from new york and I usually do not notice odd minerals in the grey shale layer so this this piece baffles me, these small shiny "scales" sort of reminds me of how the devonian fish fossils of the old red sandstone of the uk kinda preserve but other than that I have no idea what else to compare this to. Any thoughts on this piece will be greatly appreciated as I've never come across anything like it at the site.

Hello everyone, I was in Big Brook nj for a little while today and found this interesting bone. I'm not to sure if it's identifiable but it does remind me of a jaw section like a mosasaur or croc. Any help will appreciated, if I missed an angle or need additional pictures do let me know.

Hi everyone. Before he had his accident caldigger sent me these pictures hoping I could help him identify it. We were never able to in over a month of researching and that is bothering me. Do any of you have any ideas. I just thought it would be nice if we could fulfill this request for him. I personally think he will know if we do... thank you.

This was found in a desk drawer at an auction in central Illinois. We have no information on it other than it can be scratched with a screw driver. My Dad's guess is some sort of marine fin. He thinks so because of the shape and it's covered in an iridescent mother of pearl type covering.

Hi. Thanks for taking a look. Found this on family property. Curious what it could be. It's about two inches long.

Series of tubes... maybe an insect colony?? A family member, who studied geology, left me their collection and I am trying to identify some of the fossils & minerals! Thank you!

Had this for about 10-15 years and can't seem to nail a positive ID on my own. Saw one similar to this in the group recently but can't relocate it. Does anyone know what it is?

Being stuck at home has given me the opportunity to rummage through my fossils. I started with my trilobites. Weeded out three containers of Isotelus partials to give to the local sand pit. But I found 3 unidentified trilobites tucked in with the Isotelus for some reason.. Any help at IDs is appreciated. 1. Gerastos?? I think this was a gift to me many years ago. 2. Thaleops? Though I considered Illaenus or even Bumastus. The matrix looks like the Platteville, Ordovician 3. I have such difficulty with "rollers"! Thaleops? Matrix looks like the Galena, Ordovician that I frequent.

I picked up this rock while exploring a few weeks ago and noticed what looked to be an imprint of a crinoid stem in the rock. For whatever reason, I threw it in my bucket. At home, upon further examination, I came to a conclusion that this was not a crinoid imprint and was perplexed as to what it was. As you can see above, there was a big crack in the rock, self induced in order for me to see deeper into this. Here is the specimen after the rock was chipped away. The "lines" fade away as one goes deeper into the matrix until the surface becomes smooth. Next are views of the piece removed showing a tubular structure that is ribbon like, twisting and turning. Finally a few close ups of the ribbing in the initial picture. Leech like is how I would describe this, though I am aware, this is NOT a possibility, only mentioned to provide a mental thought while the images are examined.

Good evening folks. I have an item from the back of my "unidentified" drawer that I originally thought was a Pseudozygopleura species. I am having doubts because of the "twist" of the shell going 180 degrees in the opposite direction. Any help is appreciated.

Hello my friends father who was a surgeon passed away recently and after everything was finalized I inherited you could say a bunch of different fossils and stones. These were in a box I have about a hundred more pieces some big some small of what appear to be bone? Or maybe a tree or plant but I think bone. I cant tell you were he found them but he did dig them up himself and his daughter thought it might be at or around the ocean probably pacific that these were found. However she couldn't be certain. Please help!?

Hello everyone! My name is Patrick, I am new to these forums, and have next to no knowledge about fossils. I just found an interesting item today on my farm in Wayne County, Ohio, and was wondering if you could please help me. If it is not a fossil, please forgive me, I would like to learn more about the subject, and figured this would be a good way to start. Anyways, I was walking the bed of my creek, and I noticed what I thought to be a large bee hive stuck in the clay embankment. Upon further inspection, I noticed that it was solidified and made of rock, and the “combs” were more cylindrical than hexagonal or octagonal. I wondered if this is a fossil, and whether or not it might be coral? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I did my best to follow the photo guidelines, and the bottom of my tape measurer is in cm, for those of you whom may be outside of the U.S.

Hello, I recently got a hold of this tooth from an old collection in the UK. I am unsure if this tooth wouldve come from a ichthyosaur or a pliosaur since the root is absent and I'm not expert in this material, so any feedback that help figure this tooth out is appreciated.
