    Paleoniscoid fishes

Here’s a upper Devonian paleoniscoid fish I found in 18 mile creek - Erie county,NY this spring. seems to be similar to fish found in younger stratigraphy Linton deposits from Ohio area. Been hard to find any specific info on Devonian fish found in New York, perhaps a rare find? Has anyone found anything similar in western NY?
  11. Last weekend I got a chance to do some fossil hunting in a creek in Greene, New York. I am a unsure if the exact formation I was in but I know it was upper Devonian. Brachiopods were quite abundant, especially spiriferid ones. I also found a couple nice bivalves and some bryozoans/corals.

    Devonian Tooth??

Our fossil club gained access to a quarry in Central Iowa. The quarry exposes most of the Cedar Valley Formation, so I can not break it down any farther than this, as the fossil was found in a pile of rubble. When I found this specimen, I showed it to 4 different individuals, all of whom called it placoderm "tooth". My research upon arriving home could not find placoderm examples resembling this find. So I am leaning towards a shark tooth??????? Your assistance is appreciated to helping me ID this:
  13. A bit of sun yesterday helped here in Millrift PA , about 3 miles upriver from Port Jervis/Matamoras. The reference for this location is Atlas 228 plate 1 http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/topogeo/publications/pgspub/atlas/index.htm. The U. Devonian Millrift Formation (530') is underlain by the Sloat Brook Formation (340') , Sparrow Bush Formation (40') and the M. Devonian Mahantango Formation (2450'). Cheers, Gordon

    #01a Scolecodont

    From the album: Scolecodonts

This is the first scolecodont I ever found. When i first saw it under the microscope, I thought a passing beetle had dropped a piece of chelicera in my matrix! Only when I saw a second piece, still embedded in a limestone chip, was I certain that I had a fossil. I was correct about this being a chitinous jaw element. I was extremely incorrect about the age, phylum, and preferred living environment of the original owner! Size: Approx. 1 mm Upper Devonian North Evans Limestone Genesee Fm. Penn-Dixie Quarry Hamburg, NY
