    Vertebra from Florida

I had to look at this one twice. It seems to have a process sticking off the wrong side of the centrum at first glance. The pedicles and neural arch are missing, and the spinal canal location is evident. It has a pronounced triangular shape. This leads me to think I am looking at 1/2 of an Axis vertebra, but the shape seems all wrong for that too. What are we looking at here? 3.5 inches across. 2.5 inches deep

    Vertebra ID?

I am currently browsing the internet for an affordable Moroccan dinosaur vertebra, and I have (potentially) found one. However, the seller does not provide an identification for this piece. The only write up provided is: (not directly copied from the seller's writeup) It is 5.8 cm x 6.7 cm x 5.2 cm in volume, and it was found in the Kem Kem basin. Here are the images. I have absolutely no clue how to identify vertebrae, as I have only ever collected fossils from the Ordovician! Any input would be valued. Thank you! FS

    Pterosaur cervical vertebra?

Hi, just wondering if this is a pterosaur cervical vertebra (listed as such) since i can't find any similar specimens or references. It is from Morocco (Kem Kem Basin) and is 6.2cm (just under 2 and a half inches).

    Pliosaur vertebra

Hey everyone. Saw this vertebra online labelled as a Pliosaur vertebra. I heard pliosaur is quite rare and valuable so maybe this could be a good deal. What do you think? It is from Gloucester UK. also from the Upper Triassic (Rhaetian) Thanks for suggestions! (Not sure if I will be able to respond quickly to this post but I will do it ASAP. )

    Fossilized vertebra

Hello everyone. This is my first "identification" post. First and foremost: I purchased this from eBay for a reasonable price. That being said, even though the dealer is reputable and supposedly got it from a reputable source...well we know how that goes. The reason I bought it, is because 1)I can reasonably identify it as fossil. 2) The protruding object that got lodged in its sedimentary matrix, nearest to the transverse process? A tooth? So it was advertised as being disassembled and sold from a Plesiosaur vertebrae, named "Victoria". It was supposedly recovered from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Some observations: 1)The tooth-looking object. 2)It's unusually white color 3)The sandy sediment (more like a coastal recovery?) 3)Glue? on the superior part of the fossil?? Question:1)Is there reason to believe it may be from a Plesiosaur. (some from a different forum believe it may be a Miocene mammal? Dolphin?) Please forgive my lack of experience in this field...as I am very new to it. VERY new. LOL. Thanks!
  6. Hey everyone. I would like to trade this really nice Spinosaurus Caudal (tail ) vertebra. It is 7,5cm and has some repairs. I would like to trade this fossil for another theropod piece (teeth,bones...) of the same value. (Already have spinosaurus tooth) If you are interested, don’t hesitate to PM me.(You can ask me for more pictures.) Cheers.

    Vertebra from Morocco

Hello everyone. Saw this vertebra from Morocco and I was wondering what it could belong to. It is approx. 100$. The seller claims it’s Carcharodontosaurus. Could it be Spinosaurus? It is quite big, 13.5 cm. These are all the images I have. Thanks so much for all your help Kind Regards.

    Vertebra, possibly Neovenator?

In a general pm chat with @Haravex I showed him some Isle of Wight vertebrae. With this one Matt wasn’t convinced that I was right on my ID which I was leaning towards juvenile iggy. Now looking at it I agree with him. Let’s get a few more opinions. Brook Bay, Isle of Wight, Lower Cretaceous, Wessex Formation
  9. Hello, This is my 7cm long Spinosaurus Caudal vertebra that I bought from an auction site. It is from Morocco. I have some doubt on the fact that it is from Spinosaurus, if not, what could it be? As you can see,it has been repaired. What do you think? Fingers crossed Regards

    Don't know what this is

Can anyone tell me what this is. The story goes it was found in Eastern Montana. I think it is a fossilized vertebra but my friends think it is something else. It is about 3" in diameter. I tried to take photos of both sides. Sorry a couple of them are a bit blurry and it is a friend of mine who has the piece so I don't have it with me and can't retake. Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

    Mammoth vertebra?

I've been watching this vertebra on our favorite auction site and am not quite sure if it's from a mammoth, and neither is the seller, since he's placed a question mark along with it. Could someone more knowledgeable than myself please confirm or deny this? I'm thinking that it may be from some other kind of animal. I'm afraid there's only one photo. It measures 11.5 x 11.3 x 10.5cm.

    Is this a bison vertebra?

This is from China. Any thoughts on the species? It looks like bison to me, but I'm no expert. Could be equine. Heck, could be a wooly rhino for all I know. Any thoughts from those who know more than I? thanks, Matt

    Unidentified Vertebra, Manatee?

So, I bought this vertebra at a thrift store awhile back, the owner claimed it was found in one of many underwater dives where he would regularly receive fossils from. I'm not sure as to the exact location unfortunately or I would provide more info; with that being said, I don't expect a clear ID. It was definitely found in Florida the owner also said he thought it was a Manatee, but his memory was failing him as he also said which is why I've asked for an ID in the first place. Here are some photos I took, if some more are needed I will try to add more relatively soon. Thanks in advance!

    Kem Kem vert process ID

I obtained this bone a while back, but put it to one side, in the hope that I'd be able to identify it later. It's from Kem Kem and appears to be a process from a vert. In fact, I'm pretty certain it is, because a dealer online has listed this vert, which has a nearly identical process. I'm not so hot on dinosaur anatomy, but I have been looking at photos and diagrams to try and work it out. Would I be right in assuming that the vert above isn't Spinosaurus? I assume it must be dinosaur, because of the size. Thanks in advance.

    Spinosaurus Caudal Vertebra

This is a picture of my Spinosaurus Caudal vertebra I recently purchased for quite cheap on an auction site. It is 7cm long and 4,5cm high and is from Morocco. As you can see it has some reparation. Hope you like the post!

What is this Vertebra I got

Hi I would like to identify this vertebra I bought on an auction site. It is from France (Pas-De-Calais). I think it might be from an Ichthyosaurid allthough it is quite big and thick (8,5cm diameter and 4,5cm wide) My second guess is Plesiosaurid. Feel Free to share any details and thank you for leaving comments Thomas

    Kem Kem vertebra

Hello forum, I came across this at a rock/fossil shop while on a recent road trip. It was labeled as Carcharodontosaurus vertebra from Kem Kem. The shop owner said probably mid-back vertebra. The piece is approximately 12 inches wide and 12 inches across. Any help identifying is greatly appreciated.

    Whale Verterbra?

Hello! My older sister just sent me a large fossilized bone. She lives near Raleigh, (Garner, NC) but years ago took her son on various fossil hunting trips with the local club. I know they went hunting around Aurora, NC. The is a vertebra; I know there are whale fossils in the area. She no longer remembers - I do think it is a small whale vertebra! Any other opinions? I am very pleased with it, but would like some input on an identification from a more experienced eye than mine, which is NOT TOO experienced in these matters! Thanks for looking!
