I found this fossil around 4 years ago in a creek in West Virginia. I'm curious to know if it is possible to determine the time period when this fossil might have formed, the possible creature it might have been, and just more about it in general. The fossil is composed of a very deeply embedded scale pattern that is about 2.5 inches in diameter. Only about 1/2 of the fossil is very visible, and the fossil is in a layered black rock. looking for advice planning a trip from CT to MD, PA, and WV

Hi Folks, Usually during spring break I am at work making maple syrup but this coming week it will be too cold for the sap to flow. I am planning a trip south from CT and would like to check out fossils in PA, MD, and WV. I'll probably leave March 6th and return March 10th or 11th. Certainly want to check out the Calvert Cliffs and see what I can find in PA and WV. Any tips or advice on location would be really appreciated, or, if you want to meet-up that would be even better. It is so great to meet other fossil enthusiasts. I don't mind the cold and could help out with gas money -
I found this last night in Logan, West Virginia. It looks like a some kind of petrified nut maybe but I’m not sure. The pieces were apart but fit back perfectly.

Hi, My family co-owns some property along the Cacapon River in West Virginia, and we often find small fossil shells in great numbers along the roads and creeks.
