Interesting Rock found in Hunterdon County, New Jersey: Any idea what this is? Fossil?
OutdoorZ Life posted a topic in Fossil ID
I found this on a recent hike in a creek bed. This is a raised impression and is shaped like a carrot. Does anyone know what this is? Is it a fossil of something? Thanks in advance.- 9 replies

So I came across this canine on the internet. And in the comments it was being debated by the seller as a Dire Wolf canine, but multiple reactions said it's a bear canine. So I thought it might be interesting to post it here and know what it actually is. Florida find, 2'28 inch

For a friend of mine. ID'd as a partial fish skull. Found in the KemKem beds. Honestly no idea what it actually is. So give it a shot here.

Came across this Vert from the KemKem region. Looks like a regular croc or crocodylomorph vertebrae to me, apparently he is very convinced it's a "deltadromeus" vert. Anyone that can help clear this up

Recently aquired this tooth. Sold as a Chubutensis, but some thought it was a meg. Can anybody confirm it for me? Found in the clay from May River, Beaufort County.

Hello all! Like my other finds, this was found in northeastern Nebraska in a creek that runs through both the valentine and ash hollow formations, which are Miocene, as well as some Pleistocene rock. I’m stumped on this one- some animals pieces I’ve found in the creek include bison, rhino, tortoise, horse…but the modern cow gets thrown in there a lot. This is fairly mineralized… anyone have any idea?

While doing yard work, this rock caught my eye because it looked like it had fresh blood on it. I cleaned it up a bit, but there are about 5 or 6 holes with dark red dirt coming out of them. Could this be an egg? Thanks.

I found this at low tide on Manasota Key, Florida. We've collected shark teeth and other small fossils here for years, but this is a mystery for us! When we first picked it up at the high water line, it was black, but dried to a lighter gray over the course of a week. I asked locals and got guesses from a tortoise shell (it seems too thick?) to a megladon tooth (the v in the center is pointing the wrong direction, I think). The pictures are FRONT - Height & Width (with ruler), BACK view (no ruler), right edge showing holes and front , left side (with ruler) showing thickness. The gray color is accurate, the brown color is not- I used a flash on those photos to show the ruler.

Found this on a walk beside the river. Dimension of the entire rock is about 25cm x 15cm x 5cm (thickness). I noticed what appears to be small bone fragments (circled in 2nd picture), however I have no experience with fossils so I'm sure if it's just a weird looking rock. Any clues?

Searching the gravel driveway for a missing piece of a telescope (at night...), I pocketed an odd rock. In the light of day it looked to me like it could be a tooth. I'm located in McLeod Co., Minnesota, not at all known for fossils, but the glaciers have brought us a few surprises that show up from time to time. Fossil Forum members helped me ID a piece of petrified wood from the same gravel drive 2 weeks ago. Or maybe it's just a rock. It has several cracks or grooves that run most of the way from the potential "crown" to the "root." Thoughts? BTW, that's a marshmallow I used to stabilize the rock to display the possible "crown" and "root." Later I ate the marshmallow.

I'm new to all this, and was wondering if you folks can help me. I noticed this lying in a small creek bed in Berks County, PA. Didn't find anything else like it. Is it a fossil of some kind, or just a rock? Thanks!

Several of these are imbedded in the sandstone on the shore of a man made lake on the Missouri River. They are of varying size but fairly consistent shape. They are generally half-exposed as this one was. Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could identify this or tell me if its something interesting. I was digging a bush out of my yard and hit it with a shovel, sounded much different than a rock so I washed it off. It was found in clay but this soil/ clay mix was brought in by a truck from somewhere after the house was built to level the backyard. I thought it was a very unusual piece to be found in the yard. Any ideas? Let me know if any other pictures would help. Thanks Chuck
