Hi! I just found this fossil (it’s a fossil right?) in Northwest Arkansas, but haven’t been able to ID it. Anyone know what it is? It’s about two and half inches wide. Thanks!

A few tips for getting better ID's. First, make the object you are trying to get an ID for be the central object of the photo. Not your hand. Put the object on a neutral colored background and photograph it as close up as possible. Then crop your pictures. Using your hand for scale is no good, we don't know how big your hand is. Make sure the photo is well lit and focused. Second, use a scale rule (preferably metric; millimeters and centimeters) we have members from all over the world. The U.S. is about the only country that does not use the metric system Coins for scale are not good. A member in Belgium probably has no idea how big a U.S. quarter is, and we here have no idea how big a Chinese Yuan is. If you dont have a rule, tell us in the post how big it is. Length, width, height, thickness etc. Third, give as detailed info as possible as to where it was found. State, County, Country, Province, Parish. Was it in a river, a beach find, a quarry? If you know the geologic info, tell us. If not do not guess, if we have the right info on where it was found, that can be obtained. Lastly, don't expect miracles on your items. We are mostly amateurs on here. We can and do make mistakes. If the item is really worn, don't expect an exact Id. But I promise we will do the very best we can, or try to direct you to someone who could possibly ID your item.

Hi, I'm brand new here. I own and operate an estate goods store in San Diego County, California. I had a gentleman bring in an interesting piece he believed to be some kind of fossil or bone, but I have absolutely 0 experience in this field. I'm hoping to, at the very least, figure out where to begin! I have attached several pictures that we took preliminarily. Any info, advice, tips, is greatly appreciated! For all I know, this could just be a cool shaped rock, (and please don't hesitate to tell me that!) but doing my due diligence in researching this piece! Thank you for your time.

I bought this about 20 years ago when I purchased my dinosaur egg. For the life of me I have no clue what it is. It could be a rock for all I know. Any input is greatly welcomed:)

Hi folks. New here. Glad I found the forum. My son and I found this in a creek bottom where we have found several large complete ammonites. Any ideas on what kind of bone it is?

Hi, I am new to this, so before this goes in the planter, I wanted to see if I could get an idea of what, if anything, I have. I located this in the San Bernardino County area of CA, private land, Mojave Desert, hills next to a wash, as you see it. I followed the instructions on this site, but pics may not be good. I can add more. If this is nothing or something I can keep, either way I appreciate everyone 's time. If I'm missing anything, please let me know. Thank you!

Maybe it’s nothing but this rock bone thing is weird and I kept it in case it’s anything significant. I found it on the beach today in seaside, oregon. I found it high in the sand above the tide line in an area with tons of rocks. I can’t scratch anything off with my nail , it is porous. It’s not light like I would expect it to be if it were wood. Any ideas?

Hey! My name is Johan and I come from Sweden. a few days ago when my daughter went home from school she found this stone. it was located in a forest area just outside the city of Västerås in Sweden. I have googled and looked for what it could be but can not find anything that looks the same. Has anyone here seen anything similar? I think maybe it's a petrified egg of some kind?

HELP REQUEST connoisseurs. What is it? Is it a rock, a fossilized egg, a fossilized fruit?
CarlArthurKing posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hello everyone. I found this piece in one of my journeys to the Cali mountains (Farallones hillsides), in my country Colombia, South America. Please let me know what do you think it is. I thought it was a fossilized fruit, but it seems to have like a shell or so. I also want to know, -no matter what it is-, how can I preserve it the better possible way, so I can keep it safe for years to come. A big hug for you all. C.A.King Zapata- 2 replies
