Pet wood? Found outside of a fast food place in Wisconsin. Most rocks here are older than trees but this was in a gravel pit.

Hi everyone! I'm new to fossil hunting and I found a few interesting rocks underneath Sea Cliff Bridge near Wollongong in Australia. There was a lot of coal in the area for context. I will attach some photos of the rocks I found, I'm particularly interested in the small white (quartz??) lines intersecting the black part of the stone. Any help would be hugely appreciated! Thanks

Found this in South Dakota with other petrified wood. I’m just wondering if this piece is for sure petrified wood, or just a rock? Thank you!

If this topic was posted in the wrong place feel free to pull out the whips and chains. These are being found at deposit of petrified wood in south Alabama. Silicification strata sure looks favorable in situ-clay, then 1 foot of wet sand and rounded quartzite, then the wood. No limb nots, most of it has straight parallel bands like a vascular plant. Occasionally some samples with annual rings. Complete logs are rare, most are segments from 5 to 50 pounds. It seems related to Tallahatta silicified sand(stone). And it seems to have silicified grey sand in it. Thanks in advance.

giant slice of fossil wood with pink and brown color. Pink, as I think, is rare..., have not seen many of them. This comes from Arizona, near petrified forest, from an old collection. Size is around 80 cm, this is nearly 34"© fossils worldwide

This just fell into my lap, but I'm having a hard time telling exactly what it is. Seems to have been burrowed in by clams? Worms? Somethingorother. Not my area of expertise, so I rely on y'all. Found in northwestern Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. Sorry for the lack of scale, but I assure you, those are standard-sized human hands. First four photos are outside, last one is a straight-through cut. Any ideas? Appreciate the help as always!

Hi everyone! I travelled to the Isle of Wight during the long weekend of April we just had and found some interesting things. Everything below was found in the south part of Shanklin beach. I'm sorry I did not include a scale in the pictures, but they are all around 10 cm. Thanks for you help :-)

Ancient Alien Artifact or just a stick embedded in a rock?

I do not consider myself a rock or fossil enthusiast, but whenever I am out and about I will pick up interesting rocks I find. I also try and pick up a rock or stick from different places I visit. So, I was doing some landscaping a few years back, and went to the local rock yard to pick up some step stones and flowerbed rocks. I came across this interesting slab that had something embedded in it, so I took it home and made a natural bench out of it. Whenever friends come over, I joke that it's my Ancient Alien Artifact. I am just wondering if anyone can give me more information on it. Is it just a piece of petrified wood embedded in a rock? The lines are very straight and uniform, but I guess that could just be the grain of the wood. Is this something that is pretty common with petrified wood? Have just been curious about it for a few years, and just now getting around to asking a group who might know. Thanks in advance for any information.

Another find from Saltwick Bay, this time very recent. I'm guessing that the main chunk is fossilised wood of some sort, but I'm stumped by the small (~1cm diameter) patch of pyrite that exhibits very regular dimples (see images 1 & 2). Any ideas?

I found this curious item in a wild space at the back of our house in London. Around 20cm long, initially thought it looked like a bone. But then picking it up was very heavy for its size, have weighed it as 1.75kg. Looks sort of like a bone from certain angles, but maybe more likely to be petrified wood? What do people think? Very curious to know what it looks like if sliced open. Would that be advised? How would one go about having that done?

Its taken at least 12 years or more for this project but its just about complete. (I built this big master bedroom from the ground up). Complete enough to finally put the fossil wood bench under the big window in my bedroom. Got the carpet installed yesterday. Looks purty dang good. Now waiting for all the new furniture coming in 2 weeks.

These were collected in a central Pennsylvanian stream. (Altoona Pennsylvania) The long ones is close to finger length (please don't tell me it's a finger bone haha) and the smaller is about 3/4 inch. Any help identifying would be appreciated.

Hey all! I haven’t posted in a long time but I was too excited about this. I absolutely love petrified wood. I love the colours, the rings, the detail! My wonderful husband bought me this AMAZING piece of petrified wood from a local rock shop. I took it home, gave it a bath and a good scrub. It’s green! Now I've heard about the chromium petrified wood from Arizona but I have NO idea where this one came from. It’s super heavy at 25.7lbs!! I absolutely adore this piece and even if it isn’t chromium wood, it’s definitely stunning!

Hello all, I feel like this is a stretch but I'm wondering if anyone can help ID this petrified wood slab based on its appearance? I got this back when I wasn't keen on age/locality so unfortunately don't have any other information. Its diameter is about 100-120mm across. I know some types of petrified wood such as the Arizona rainbow petrified wood or Palm wood have characteristic appearances so perhaps this one looks like something?
