Hello everyone! I will be traveling down to St. Petersburg to visit some close friends, but I'm going to take a day to get wet and maybe find some cool fossils. I've been desperately wanting to look in the Peace River. I plan on renting a kayak/canoe and spending a day on the water. I'm a member of the Alabama Paleontological Society so I have a little experience/knowledge of what I need to be to looking for. Would anyone be willing/able to message me and show/tell me some good areas to possible start looking? I think I wanna focus my choices in the Wauchula/Arcadia areas. Thank you for any help you can give me!

I ventured out on the holiday weekend, against my better judgement, to give the Zolfo Springs stretch another try. Turned out to be much better than I expected.....traffic was minimal and only a few others in the section I wanted to work in. Fairly productive day (for me) as well which was a pleasant surprise. The one item that is new for me is the astragalus (I assume) with the added projection. I figured Harry @Harry Pristis could give me an ID, but if anyone is available on this holiday that knew who it is from, I'd appreciate it.

Yesterday while looking for Miocene Echinoids I ran across the following piece which I almost tossed away, but the longer I looked at it, the more unusual it seemed. This section of the Peace is largely Miocene Peace River Formation and largely yields invertebrates with infrequent vertebrate fossils washed in. I tried to find a thread where @Coco and @Shellseeker discussed "Limestone algae" or something similar, but I can't exactly recall what it was. The piece in question was quite small and was found by Jack and Coco gave hime the ID. The piece I'm wondering about is quite large (relatively) and I wondered if it could be the same thing as Jack's. It definitely looks like more than a geologic oddity, but not really bryozoa ish or coral ish. Thanks for looking.

I was out Monday unsuccessfully looking for inverts, but came back with a ton of shark teeth and a few of the more common vertebrate finds. would appreciate an ID id anyone would like to take a chance. The overall length is 101 mm. I'm thinking a dog sized animal but have no clue. Thanks for the look see!

I wondered if there were enough characteristics left on this very worn molar to identify who it belongs to. From the Peace River, Zolfo Springs area. Appreciate the time.

I lucked into this beauty while excavating a limestone pit in the Peace river bed looking for Miocene invertebrates. Is there any chance of identifying it's species from the location found and the size? @Harry Pristis ?

The attached photo shows material that seems to be fairly common in areas of the Peace River that have allot of deteriorated limestone and limestone slabs.I don't think it has any recognizable structure suggesting it is the result of some life form. Just generally a botryoidal shape. Does anyone know what it is or have any experience with it?

Did not do well yesterday with the additional foot of water due to the storm, but found this little osteoderm. I don't think it's tortoise because it hasn't got the perimeter feature at it's base and it has a much more dense outer layer. Has anyone seen something similar before? I have several sloth osteoderms, but this doesn't have a similar texture to those either.

I went back to Zolfo Springs again yesterday to make use of the 94 degree day before the predicted cold front and rain came in. Nobody else on the river as the day was supposed to be pretty windy, but it held off almost until I was on my way back to the truck. Decent results with a bison incisor, nice little meg and mako and a cool little canine. The canine is about the length and contour as a domestic house cat and a little thinner and less curved than a raccoon. Nice day out.

Went to Zolfo Springs, Pioneer Park to put in for a trip on a very pleasant 92 degree Easter Sunday. Lots of people out, but most were doing the social distancing thing......many were not. As usual I was alone for most of my time on the river and it did turn out to be a rather productive day. Horse, camel/llama, gar, gator, Giant Tortoise, turtle, tons of shark teeth and the most interesting finds, 2 unusual osteoderms (top center in the picture). Using the 1/4" screen again to save my right arm muscles, slows down the process, but the tiny stuff makes the day feel more productive than shoveling constantly into the 1/2" screen. Especially in Zolfo where most of the gravel is less than 1/2" in size. Here's the take for the 5 hours, most of which will wind up in the donation/give away section.

I've spent the last few trips Socially separating on the Peace at Zolfo Springs. Yesterday I found some pretty interesting stuff. I've switched back to a 1/4 " screen for a while because the 1/2" and the extended shovel handle was killing me. As a result, I've gotten a ton more small shark teeth, but have been able to process a lot less material. This was the total take for Tuesday. The invertebrates are the most interesting I think. In the lower left corner is a juvenile Abertella aberti with some minor damage but an intact perimeter. I've got a question about the sea biscuit though. It is clearly a Ryncholampas sp., but which one? This is Hawthorne group, not Suwannee, so should I assume it's R. chipolanus? Close up pictures follow.

I found the item on the right a couple years ago and wrote it off at the time as just a unique Giant Tortoise osteoderm. I'm having 2nd thoughts now that I've found another one yesterday when digging at Zolfo Springs. The newest one (on the left) is still wet so it shows what looks like a Fossa or a Facet on the underside more clearly than the one on the right. Both display (or would have displayed) a very definite ridge down the centerline. So, just a different osteoderm, or something different?

Last week I went to a little spot in the Peace that I can dig at high water levels. Found very few things, but wondered if anyone has an idea of what the little bone in the lower left corner of the picture is.
