Hi all. I recently found these bones with a friend and I'm unsure as to the species (our first dino bones!!). They were found in the Denver fm, just under the K-T boundary. One of my buddies was doing some excavating in his backyard for the addition to his house and called me when he found a small piece and he didn't know what kind of rock it was. I dug out the first bone, the smaller one. At a later date, I noticed that the bump the hammer is resting on in the pic was a second bone.... Which is in the second picture. I don't think these are the same animal - the first bone is much better mineralized and in better shape than the second, which was reassembled from many pieces. Towards the hammer's handle side of bone 1, it flattens out. I think it could be a femur or humerus to a Plesiosaur. The second, larger bone, I believe is a femur.. Just due to the absolute huge size but I don't know what species it could be. We're really excited about this find. It's certainly the find of a lifetime for us... Thanks!

I've gotten permission to search a very large ranch that the owner says has never been checked out other than by hunters and cowboys. My question is how to ID the K-T boundary. This land has several black layers but this is the best defined. Is it by what you find? Could you get it tested for iridium? Or just put on the rattlesnake leggings and go for it?
