Hi all, I have been collecting at Mazon Creek for several years, but I have not run into anything like this. This particular example was collected in September of 2020, but I just recently got around to freeze-thawing. Any suggestions on what it could be, if anything at all? Thanks! Ethan

Iam new to mazon creek fossil hunting, most of what I have found are plants which are identifiable. I have two items I think one might be a sort of worm and the other I have no idea if anything can help identify either if they are truly something. Thank you

Huge Mazon Creek tree fern plant fossil nodule? Does anyone know?
KarenH posted a topic in Fossil ID
I recently was given this fossil that belonged to my grandfather in Wisconsin. Can anyone help me positively identify it? He collected all kinds of things, including Indian Artifacts, Arrowheads, Stone Tools, Rocks and Gems, etc. 13" long 8.4 lbs. Thank you!- 11 replies

Having trouble making an ID on this one, unmarked in an old collection. I'm hoping that someone will recognize it instantly! My guess: Acanthotelson.

Greetings, all! I’m new here, but very appreciative already for this forum. I’m an amateur fossil hunter, collector and paleoartist, and I recently decided to organize and catalogue all of my fossils, which will take a very, very long time. Hence I’ll likely be posting quite a bit in this section... so here’s my first conundrum: It’s from Mazon Creek, Illinois. It looks like a shrimp, as I have a few to compare it with, but certain features of the rock give the impression of wings, so I start to see a dragonfly-esque shape. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm at a loss here. This is perhaps the most unusual of the Mazon fossils that I have come across, and I don't recall seeing anything quite like it in the photographs posted here, but I could have missed something. This is from an old collection of Mazon pieces, and, for an unknown reason, is one of the few that has a lacquered or sealed surface. The concretion, as an intact nodule, measures 2-3/4" x 2-1/2", and the fossil inside is roughly 2-1/2" in length. Any ideas? ~Paul

This was found in a nodule that fell out of a large piece of shale that had fossil ferns on it - I cracked the shale to see if there were more ferns inside, and this little concretion rolled out. Thank you!
