Smithsonian Natural History Museum: Fossil Hall, Dinosauria
Stegonick23 posted a topic in A Trip to the Museum
Hello everyone! Since I live close to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, D.C., I thought I would go through and give you all a tour of the new fossil hall specimens. Due to the size of the museum, I decided to only focus on the dinosaur fossils. If anyone would like, in the future I can go back to get some pictures of the mammalian and invertebrate fossils as well. Also, due to file size, this will take a little while to add everything in (additional comments) despite the fact I have substantially reduced/cropped all the images. Thanks, hope you enjoy! ....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Sounds like a new type of joke, like lightbulb jokes or something. But this is an article that is part of a five post series to bring attention to the new paleontology exhibit at the Smithsonian. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/how-do-paleontologists-find-fossils-180972126/ How do paleontologists find fossils? They look in the museum catalog. How do paleontologists find fossils? They find them fascinating. Hdpff? They don't, they help the fossil find itself. ...

contacting smithsonian/natural history museum/experts
Still_human posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Would anyone happen to have contact info for anyone in the fossil field at the Smithsonian/Museum of Natural History? Actually, any museum, or "official"(?) expert of the field--Prehistoric whales/Cetus. Ive tried contacting anyone from the smithsonian website contact form, and through email, but haven't had any luck yet. I know they would be very busy, but as my attempts have only gone to the most general direction, I'm thinking that if the messages even end up getting to the correct people at all, they may not even get the messages for some time. -

Sorry if someone has already posted this but I thought this was just too cool to pass up. Researchers from the Smithsonain have used lasers to scan whale skeletons in situ and then used 3D printing technology to recreate the site in the palm of your hand! Wow! Check it out at: http://www.engineering.com/3DPrinting/3DPrintingArticles/ArticleID/5372/The-Smithsonians-3D-Printed-Fossil-Whales.aspx Scroll down the page for the video...
