On a recent visit to Key West, Florida I found this imprint in a rock along the shore. This was a piece of rip rap, so its original location is unknown but I believe most of the fill and rubble in the area was sourced fairly locally (South Florida). The bedrock at this location is the Pleistocene aged Miami Limestone, which is from the Wisconsinan to Sangamonian stages (<700,000 years) but even in all of southernmost Florida (say Miami and south) the oldest you get is Pliocene. So, while I don't know the exact age, I'm pretty confidant it is fairly young. The imprint is about 5cm wide by 9 cm long. Hard to tell in the picture perhaps, but it is probably 3-4 cm deep. In the picture on the left, you see the whole rock, including the other bivalve casts etc in there. Looks pretty typical for what I saw in the limestones of that area. The picture on the right is the impression enlarged. I did not bring it home with me, so this is the best I can do with pictures. My first impression was it looked like the impression of an ammonite septal wall, but of course it is much to young for that. Only other thing I can think of is the impression of the top of some type of coral, maybe a brain coral, but I'm struggling to visualize it as it looks too symmetrical for that. The detail is pretty neat. Anyone recognize this? @digit @hemipristis @Harry Pristis

Hi all! I stopped out at a local rock shop. While they are mainly mineral and gemstone oriented they do carry a handfull of fossils. I was looking for some gem jars.. while walking through their raw rock area, I noticed this sitting on the shelf with just a little bit of it showing. As I’m a prepping addict and it was only a couple dollars I picked it up. They had no information on it except it’s a rock with fossil bits in it LOL!. After getting it home I did a little probing prep and this is appearing. It seems familiar but I can’t put my finger on the name of it. The fossil is 33mm at its widest. Here it is wet and dry.. thanks for looking!

Hey there! I’m just wondering if anyone could give their opinion on whether or not this may be an impression of an ammonite? It was found face down in Colorado, USA. Thank you!

I just found this rock on the beach and I think it might be a Stormatolite. It also obviously could just be some water marks. I also thought it might be an ammonite due to it's round shape, but I don't think it is. So please let me know what do you think about this rock.

Hi! I am a young collector from Vietnam. I bought this ammonite at Van Phuc antique market (Ha district, Hanoi). The seller told me it was found in the mountains of northern Vietnam. He says it is an opalized ammonite and has been processed. As a young collector, I don't know if it's an ammonite. If so, what kind of ammonite is it? How old is it? All your comments are highly appreciated. Thanks for your attention! (As a Vietnamese, I'm not very good at English, if there are any spelling mistakes in the article that make it difficult for you to understand, please ignore!)

Hey folks! I’ve got an unusual ammonite found in Rankin Texas. I believe it’s from Edwards Limestone, but I don’t have an exact pinpoint on the location. This whole one was found, and a part of another of the same species, but I haven’t been able to identify them as of yet. Edit: Confirmed it is indeed Edwards Limestone. Measurement is with a 1in with centimeters marked. Thank you!

Hi all, first post and newbie collector so appologies if this is posted in the wrong place. On a Recent trip to Dorset these were found and I’d love some input on the best way to prepare these. One is large and I as tempting as it was to just have at it with the hammer and chisel, I suspect more interesting things may be lurking in there. The others are much smaller and may need something like an air scribe?? Recommendations on that line appreciated also. thank you in advance for any help/tips/recommendations.

The 2nd mystery fossil is also from the southern part of France. It's a black fossil, slightly curved with 10 ammonite like "lobes". To me it always looked like a part of a heteromorph ammonite. It measures 4 x 2,5 cm.

Was in montana a couple of years ago and went to the Mowry shale road cut north of Billings. Brought back a number of fish scales and this impression. It is about 1 by 1.5 inches. Not sure what it is, part of it looks ammonite like but then there seem to be two lobes?

Hey everybody! I had an opportunity to visit the Holzmaden area (fantastic museum) and split some rocks at Schieferbruch Kromer in Germany. There were plenty of ammonites and I even managed a few neat belemnite pieces I'm very happy about. But one find has me a bit stumped. It appears to be very thin, and I have the feeling it is some part of an ammonite but I have no clue where it would fit in since it isn't very spirally. The caliper scale for reference is in mm and inches (it's about an inch long). The last 2 photos are at an angle to show some of the relief. If you've got any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them, thanks!

Decided to try cleaning a box of stuff picked up on an outing to Fluvana last years (I actually have enough to consider posting something in collections). I honestly don't remember picking his little piece up but found the puzzle like structure from the side view after cleaning it a little. Whatever it is is pretty neat looking. Any help would be appreciated.
