Hello friends, Found this on the beach this morning. I often find whale bone fragments on this beach, but this one is much more interesting than most. There is obviously a large portion that is broken/worn off along the entire bottom edge, but there are some fairly distinctive details that make me really curious about this one. Especially the large concave surface on one side and a small vertebrae-like surface on the opposite side. Any help/hints are appreciated.

On Monday I went on a little trip to one of my top secret places to fossil hunt on the shores of Lake Michigan. It's a small beach in Northeastern Cook County, Illinois which I've always found lots of Silurian aged fossils. (1) This trip was no different!! https://silurian-reef.fieldmuseum.org/narrative/392 I found a large amount of small but pretty interesting Silurian fossils which demonstrate the diversity of reef supported aquatic life in the Chicago land area 444 to 419 million year ago during the Silurian era! Ideas re Florida tours, scuba diving/snorkelling, accommodation with attitude this December 2022?

I am an enthusiastic amateur fossil collector and I have the opportunity to pop over to Florida for ten days (from Wales) after just retiring from nursing for 45 years. I am a solo traveler and would like some suggestions of unique accommodation, best places to visit in December 2022 for fossil collecting. I am an inexperienced padi diver but have just renewed my practice. Any suggestions would be appreciated rather than the usual places you see on face book etc. -
Found in the ocean (gulf coast) but have no idea what it could be. It is brownish/black in color and is hard, approx 2 inches tall. Looks like the shape of a tooth to me but cannot find anything else that looks similar any help in identification would be greatly appreciated.

I have just researched what to look out for when hunting ammonites and other fossils and I read that they can be found in and around the Great Ocean Road but does anyone know any spots that had a high concentration of them?

Hi all, I’ll introduce myself as possibly, the youngest fossil hunter in this thread. “ possibly “ I’m 19 years old with an ongoing passion that started when I was 10 years old. I’m located in Florida the Caloosahatchee area, I mainly hunt for shark teeth and bone but my all time favorite is prehistoric land animal fossils. With 10 years of experience on my shoulders I’ve got my fair share of play time. I joined this forum because fossil talk isn’t easy to come across in the face to face world as we’re all consumed by our technology, with limitless information and easily accessible online buddies here I am creating a thread in a community full of endless conversations about a hobby I’ll hopefully never give up. I hope to get a response from a few people around this world as I would like to see how your journey has been treating you.

Hello, my name is Mike. I have always loved our earths history and finally found myself with some time to start fossil hunting. With my job, school and family , it’s been tough but I’m so glad I got into the hunting. I’m always hiking around the state, scouting places and just getting outside. I look forward to hopefully meeting some of you in the near future.

Hi, just found this forum. I am completely new to this. Seen quite a few folks in my area with nice shark teeth finds and started recently to look for the during walks on the beaches of Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms close to our house. Was (am) getting frustrated as I have not found a single one yet . Hence, my quest for information on "how to" and as a result ended up with links to this forum. I have always been fascinated by fossils and historic finds of all nature and would like to dive deeper (no pun intended) into it. I have a bay boat and am able to get to get to places in creeks, rivers, and remote beaches where others may not be able to get to. I have already read some good suggestions and will hopefully soon be able to post my first finds.

Hi all, I plan on being in the Charleston SC area next week. I've seen some of the other posts about fossil hunting near where I am staying and I plan on going to those sites and tours. Anyone have any tips in general? Or places near Charleston that are worth visiting. I'm going to be staying at Isle of Palms, which is right next to Charleston. (If this has been posted before and I just looked over it a link is also much appreciated.) Thanks;

A few weeks ago I went to Florida with my family members and a few friends, where we searched endlessly for sharks' teeth. After searching some dunes after a big local storm hit our private beach, we had pretty good results. I was wondering if any of you readers could identify some of the shark teeth I found, but ignore the shark jaws and striped skunk skull, as well as the giant top left tooth, which is a replica, (they are just other items in my collection) also I've identified the three largest as Bull sharks' teeth, but I've never identified this many teeth before.
