Hi, we recently found this at Big Brook Preserve (NJ). Anyone know what this could be? It is comes to a point, solid like a rock and was in the bottom of a creek bed. Thanks in advance for your help!

I just took my friends out for a fossil trip their first time yesterday; where we could all get together and do something cool and introduce them to the fun pastime and interesting research I dabble in for my birthday. I should’ve known he’d have beginners luck but I was not expecting this find when he plucked it out from the water. They all had a blast and it was a beautiful day. Any and all input into trying to discern what creature it could’ve came from? The more the merrier! A couple other angles

Hi all This past weekend, we took a quick trip up to Big Brook, NJ and found these small, very worn fragments of what I suspect may be teeth of some kind I have a guess or two as to what they may be from looking around online, but I don't have much experience with anything besides shark teeth, so I was hoping for a bit of help clarifying Any ideas?

I found these these at Big Brook this Summer. The smaller, black tooth/claw(?) was found at the water's egde when I was picking through some gravel at the waterline. The other piece (bone or rock?) was just a couple of inches away. There is a groove in the larger piece that fits and holds the tooth/claw perfectly. Any ideas on an id? The tooth/claw is about 1 inch long, very flat, not the least bit conical. The larger black tooth/bone(?) was found on the same trip, on the same gravel bar, about 10-15 feet away. Thanks! KJ

Hi all! New member and very novice fossil enthusiast here. My family and I just got into fossil hunting this year and I wanted to ask for help identifying some of our finds. We've been exploring the formation in Big Brook New Jersey for a while now, and we've found plenty of shells, shark teeth, and belemnite that are easier to identify. We've also found our fair share of tricky concretions and other fake-out fossils in the brooks. I'm still learning what to look for and how to tell the difference between bone and rock, but I've made some good progress! Anyway, I wanted to ask about some of the trickier pieces in our little collection so far. I have a guess or two for some of them after poking around google, but mostly I'm stumped. Part of me is just looking for confirmation if they are anything at all, even if a specific ID isn't possible. I would absolutely love to hear any opinions or advice about them and what traits to look out for in the future! (will post some close-ups in the replies) 1 & 2: They don't seem like teeth really, but they've got some interesting patterns and a pair of pronounced seams(?) 3: I'm 99% sure its fossilized bone, but might be too small of a fragment to tell what kind 4: The shape makes me curious, but could easily just be rock 5: I'm getting turtle vibes? No idea 6: The texture and shine make me think maybe Coprolite? 7: Much like 4, the shape is curious, but might be nothing. The texture is less rock-like than 4's, though 8. Sort of claw shaped? Maybe just rock 9. The hole pattern seems similar to some turtle or crocodile scute I've seen others come across 10 & 11: Skeptical, but not confident enough to rule them out 12: I've found a few concretions that have very similar inner/outer sections like this, but some of the patterns on the outside of this one make me uncertain if it's just rock I'll follow up with some more close-ups, but thanks for any and all help anyone has to give Some close-ups of 1, 2 & 3 The 'seams' on 1 & 2 have me stumped 3 is probably too small to tell much about, but it's the first piece I've found (aside from shark teeth) that I've been pretty certain is bone and not rock

The front, back, side and bottom of whatever this could be? I could not find anything to measure it with but for now hopefully the pictures alone help for the meantime. The shape of it reminds me of a bone for some reason so that's my guess as to what it could be; not quite sure of what this texture on it is though, i scraped a bit of it off fairly easily and it was dusty brown coming off of it, but not too hard when scraping the surface it barely had any resistance. I tried scraping the exposed part of my other find; the iron concretion to compare the 2 and the concretion was much more durable on it's exposed part to try ruling out if it is just another ironstone concretion. It was found in the same brook called "big brook preserve" in central new jersey in the united states. Another possibility that I've came up with is that this find might be a concretion but not nearly as old and formed yet. Right now it could be anything. Thank you to whoever responds and helps with this post; very much appreciated.

At the risk of sounding silly, I can't figure out if this is a fossil or seed. I found it on the bottom of a stream in Monmouth County, NJ, along with some other things that I need to photograph in daylight before asking for opinions. It doesn't float, if that helps. Thank you for your help!
