Found this nice little tooth on Chippokes plantation down in southern VA. It’s just over 1 1/4 inches. It looks meg-ish, but it just seems a bit off. Any ideas?

Hello ! just wondering if anyone has ever been to Chippokes State Park Plantation in Surry Va. I have been there about 6-8 times haven’t had much luck there. I’ve found probably only 10 teeth at that location. Can anyone share their finds from there? @HoppeHuntinghave you ever been to Chippokes? If so have you had much luck there?

Not a very exciting trip, but we went out to Chippokes Plantation State Park in Surry, VA for Father’s Day to have a walk on the beach and relax, and I found a nice coral, a red mako tooth, some other small teeth, and a bonito nose.

I've been hearing about Chippokes Plantaion State Park in Surry, VA for the last year or so. Finally got out there this weekend. Being a shell person, I was rather disappointed that the only thing one is allowed to collect at that park is shark teeth. But, they do allow something to be collected and pictures don't require more shelves to be installed in the family room. Sun up, sundown and a beautiful day in-between The shells just carpet the beach at low tide! Look, Ma! Both valves! There was definitely more to that Ecphora. I just didn't take a picture after I pulled it out. All it was missing was the protoconch.

Hello Forum Members! I've been looking around this site for awhile, but just today finally decided to make an account! My boyfriend and I look for shark teeth all around Virginia and Maryland, usually always finding something to take home. We like to look for teeth and fossils in a variety of areas- rivers, bays, oceans, and creeks, wherever they can be found! We've been looking for teeth ever since we got hooked on vacation at North Myrtle Beach a few years back. We often look at public locations like Westmoreland, Chippokes, Purse, etc. Although those spots can become looked over, we more often than not find the biggest tooth next to someone else's footprint- it's always an exciting and fun trip. For us, it's the thrill of the hunt- around the next corner could be a giant meg or a beautiful blue Hemi! (which often makes it hard to turn around and go back towards the car) We find that the biggest problem we have in VA is public access. Maryland seems a bit better, but it is still tough without a boat! We are also just beginning how to identify where in Virginia it is possible to even find teeth. I'm joining the forum to connect with other fossil hunters and to learn more about the teeth/fossils that we find. As soon as we go out on another fossil adventure, I will post our finds! Found this forum online as we have gotten more and more into fossil (mainly shark tooth) hunting. Still very new to "the hunt" and this forum has been a wealth of information. Thank you to all who have shared to help us newbs! Few finds from today's hunt. Chippokes State Park - Surry County VA

Any tips for fossiling near Chippokes State Park? I'm hoping to bring my 10yr old triplets over to Jamestown next weekend. Any tips on finding fossils in the area? It's been about 20 years since I was last there, but I recall finding parts of dolphin/whale bones, sharks teeth, and lots of shells (state fossil Chesapecten jeffersonius, etc.). Tide table looks good for a morning search.... Recent googling seems a bit contradictory about what can be found and kept. Any advice?

Is this a mammal tooth or a broken vertebrae? I assumed it was a vertibrae because of the tiny hole in the middle!
