The origin of this item is unknown. I am trying to determine if it is an actual fossil or concrete that was poured into a cylindrical item? The fossils on one end make me want to say it's a fossil, but I am stumped. Not a crinoid. Horizontal striations are too thin for cephlapod, right? It is the same size width the entire length, but up close the composition looks almost like fine concrete to me? Thanks for any input! Ramona

A friend asked me if this might be a fossil. I don’t know but I do know where to ask! The piece is heavy and will just barely take a scratch from a high-carbon steel pick. Thanks in advance!

I am new and I have no idea what this is. Can someone please give me an educated guest at least?

This cylindrical object came from my neighbor whose mother was an avid artifact and rock collector. She had no idea what it was or when her mother found it but it was a long time ago up in the area of Carey, Idaho, on her mother's private property. The object is cylindrical with a small sway toward the middle of it. It is 4' tall and approximately 2 3/8" at the widest point. It is stone or clay colored uniformly aside from the ends where it has a brownish gold tinge and shows circles in the center of each end. It is very heavy given its size and seems dense it weighs 1 lb 6.1 oz. Any help would be appreciated on this one.- 39 replies

Hi again folks, In the freshly plowed garden this morning, found this very interesting, very busy chunk of shale along with several others. I tried to break some open but did more damage than good, I think. The big piece has what looks like a worm lying in an arc with holes radiating from the body of it. Is this an animal or maybe a plant root ? The other question is: What are the features that have the appearance/texture of a strawberry ? Plant ? or ? Thanks again folks, its amazing what you'll find ...... once you start looking. more pics ........ Thanks
