Gastropod ID? Eagle ford Shale (not far from Woodbine) Dallas County TX
Shaun-DFW Fossils posted a topic in Fossil ID
I found my 2nd and 3rd gastropods in the Eagle Ford, but these are unique (to me). Especially one that I found right along the Trinity River in western Dallas County TX. it’s almost glass-like on portions of it and I kept thinking it was still wet due to the reflection. I also found a nice handful of ammonites but I’ll post that elsewhere. I finally met my match with the cold water..I still got in up to my ankles. 🤣😬 any ideas on the gastropods?- 3 replies

I found this tooth, and a bunch of other shark, fish, and ptychodus teeth in a creek in central Austin, Texas. I'm still trying to assess the age of the rock and better understand the geology of the area. I noticed a glint in the matrix while at home and gently wiggled it free. It really stood out as different. It's very curved, has a tiny cusp, and a line at the base. I'm still learning so I'm hoping to identify this tooth. Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

According to geologic map this location belongs to Austin Chalk. This is a construction site, the rock color change from tan to gray. I found this specimen in the gray shale like matrix. Is it a baby Ptychodus tooth? I have never seen a flat top before

Latest micro-finds, Martin Marietta quarry, Midlothian TX
DinoMike posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
I'm still breaking down shale chunks that I brought home from the Martin Marietta quarry in Midlothian, TX. Site covers the Atco contact between the Eagle Ford shale & the Austin Chalk formations. Lots of micro stuff in there. Here are my latest tiny finds. Scale in all photos is in millimeters. Pycnodont fish tooth. Thanks to Mike Everhart for the ID! Ptychotrygon sp. ray tooth #1 Ptychotrygon sp. ray tooth #2 Vertebra, I suspect fish of some type or other, That's the offbeat stuff. Most of the rest is all shark teeth in varying condition. Haven't gotten photos of those yet, too big for my micro camera.- 5 replies
