  1. As the title states: Let's see your rarest specimen! Please feel free to share why it's rare.. i.e., is it rare in that locality? Is it rare in association with other specimens? Or is it just plain impossible to find? Looking forward to my socks getting knocked off 😀
  2. Here’s one for our resident ichnologists. This is far out of my league to id. Found in Branson MO, it’s limestone. Bunch of ripples where I found this. I don’t know Branson strat, so unfortunately that’s the most info I can give you. The trace in question is roughly 1 cm wide. Thanks in advance!

HELP ID PLEASE and THANK YOU

This was found in a dried up creek bed in Arizona, near Tombstone, Arizona. At first I seen the crystals sparkling and thought, "cool an old 'Hag Stone'. ...in the desert???" On further inspection it kind of has a distinct shape. Also the hole look much like sinuses in a skull, possibly bird.
  4. Hi all, Thanks so much for the kind feedback on my Berthasaura reconstruction. Here is another example of my work: A 'juvenile' tyrannosaur skull based loosely on Jane (BMRP 2002.4.1) I'm aware of the debates regarding age and species however I have just approached this as younger individual. Thanks so much for checking out my sculpt. I'm printing a prototype as we speak, I'll post some updates on here once its assembled!

    What is it?

I found this a couple years ago on a ranch in north east Wyoming. It was sticking part way out of the ground and it looked like a fossil of some kind. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Is this a fossil?

Hi! I found these two “stones” on a beach in Møn, Denmark today. The first photo I’m pretty sure is a fossil (I’m very new to this so not 100% sure, but I saw one similar to it at the møn geo centre) does anyone know specifically from what? as for the second one, I’ve done a bit of research and I’m pretty sure it is just flint, but just incase, can anyone identify if it’s anything interesting? thanks in advance!!

    Are these real shell fossils?

I would really appreciate advice on whether or not this matrix of shells or fossilized. It is being advertised as fossilized shells, but I want to make sure before I would purchase it. Thank you so much everyone for your expert advice.

    Are these real shell fossils?

This matrix of shells is for sale and the description says it is a fossil. I would greatly appreciate any advice on whether or not this seems to be a genuine, fossil, or a more modern matrix. Thank you so much for your expertise everyone.

    What the heck are these?

Found around or near Siskiyou County Far Northern California. The largest looks like fossilized crystals, the next largest seems like fossilized shells and even a fuzzy thing growing in it, the rock definitely has what looks like the shell of something and then there is a white brown rock. Im not a collector just want to know what these are and if people would be interested in them. thanks for any information.

Hi all, new to the site, just hoping if someone might help us find out what this fossil is? Found with my daughter in Somerset, UK. Thanks in advance
  17. Found some nice Miocene period fish fossils in 2020. They have been ID'ed as Xyne grex (Extinct Herring Relative) but other and larger fish species fossils as well as shark teeth have been found there too. There is some Great info on this site here!: https://www.nautiloid.net/fossils/sites/jalama/jalama.html

    Is this a fossil?

I found this (fossil?) bone on the beach at the Beaumaris fossil beach. Could it be fossilized or just bone? Does anyone know a way to see if something is fossil?
  19. Hey all! I went out last week and still cannot identify this. Please help end the madness of “what is this???” Thanks!

    Australia, Unknown Fossil

Hello fellow fossil people, The images are of an unknown specimen collected from a well known fossil site just south of the city Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. I'm finding it difficult to even get a genus let alone species on this. I'm thinking its perhaps some kind of crab species given what appears to be four leg sockets on each side. Another thought regarding ID is a lamp shell, Brachiopoda perhaps in the family Terebratulidae? The ruler scale in the photos is in millimeters. Thanks in advance for spending time looking at this and would be happy to answer any questions or provide more photos if needed. Kind regards, Jack
  22. Hi, appreciate any ID help on this one from Chivo Canyon in Southern California. About 4-5" in diameter found inside of a roughly 1 foot diameter rock. The area is known for Eocene and Oligocene period fossils. Guessing this may be a sponge, coral, or possibly echinoderm like a Sea Urchin. Stumped on the ID so far. Most of the other fossils in the canyon are mollusks and gastropods. Thanks! -Chris.
  23. Just posting some pics of some finds from Chivo Canyon from 2020 and 2024. Would really appreciate any ID inputs on the Unknown Fossils especially the roundish one with many circles in it. It was roughly 4-5" in diameter in the center of a roughly 1 foot diameter rock. Guessing Sponge, Coral, or may an Echinoderm like an Urchin. The Chivo Canyon area is known to have fossils from the Eocene, and Oligocene periods. There are also a couple other unknown fossils which could be bones but not sure. The Tower Snails or Turritellas are probably mostly Turritella Uvasana. I don't know what the other Gastropods are. Thanks in advance for any ID ideas! -Chris.
  24. Hi all, I’m new to this forum! And maybe this is nothing, but thought I’d get your opinions. I found this stone in Sand Banks, Ontario. Any ideas as to what it is?
