I have seen on multiple occasions "peccary" teeth for sale originating from the Miocene of the Gansu Province in China. I have never heard of any fossil representative of Tayassuidae being seen outside of the New World, so what might they be? This is a picture of one such "peccary tooth". I'd put this in fossil ID put I thought it was quite a general question.

Recently bought a piece of partial lower jaw with a tooth, the seller said it was a Ictitherium but I’m not so sure. Need some help with identification.

I have some Gansu fossils from the Linxia Basin, but I wasn't 100% sure on ID. The teeth were sold as Entelodont molars, and my current assumption is that they belong to Paraentelodon macrognathus from the Oligocene deposits in the Linxia Basin. From what I've read, they are similar to Daeodon, at least size wise. I think the formation would be the Jiaozigou Formation? But I'm not entirely sure. The Chleuastochoerus jaw, i have no idea. I think there are 2 species present in the Linxia Basin, and I don't know if it's possible to ID them down to species level without more specific provenance. That said, I honestly don't know anything about this animal, aside from it being a prehistoric pig. I know the fang had some glue on it when I put some acetone on it during prep, so it's probably repaired. The back side had big globs of glue that turned pretty nasty in acetone, but fortunately, there was nothing on the jaw itself, and I easily dug the teeth hidden inside the matrix. Not really sure if I did a great job though since I don't prep that often.

Good evening folks. I am requesting a verification/confirmation for a tooth I purchased over 10 years ago listed as Platybelodon, Miocene, Gansu, China. It measures 7cm long, 4.2cm wide and 6.3cm tall.

Hello, this is a carnivore skull from China (I bought it many years ago in Germany). All I know is that it was found in the Gansu area, though I don't know how certain this information is. The overall length is 18 cm. The first pictures are from the left side, the last ones from the right side of the skull. The distal part of the molar on the right side is broken off. I have an idea what it could be, but I'm not sure. (I'll tell about it later, but I don't want to influence brainstorming with this information at the moment). Any suggestions? Thanks, araucaria1959

Take a look of this very well preserved Psittachosaurus from Hezheng, Gansu. It looks genuine to me. What do you think? And it's funny to see that the matrix is bound by some tape, presumably preventing the matrix from breaking apart.

These two well preserved tortoise are from Gansu, China. I am not sure about what species they are.

Hi guys! These two teeth in jaws arrived the other day. They are from Gansu, China and the seller wasn't sure what they are from. He simply said "cat or dog". Lol. I'm not expert on Miocene mammals and at first glance I believe the big molar/carnassial maybe some sort of big cat? Its a massive tooth! When I compare it to a similar tooth in a Hyaenodon horridus jaw I have from Nebraska, its MUCH bigger. Maybe the smaller is from a hyena? I really don't know and appreciate if anyone can shed a little light on the "cats and dogs". I have not cleaned the teeth and some matrix is still stuck on the large tooth. I figure this may help a little with ID. I understand that at Gansu there are two distinctly coloured formations. Thanx in advance! (more pics in comments)
