Hello, I was digging in my garden today and found something that seems to be bone, but seemed heavier than what I would expect bone to be. My first thought was that it's a fossil, but there's a flat side that seems to have been cut by some tool, so I'm guessing that makes it really unlikely to be a fossil, but I wasn't sure. I'd love to even know if anyone knows what animal it came from, and what bone it is. It was found in eastern Pennsylvania, USA; zip code 19343. It's about 9cm long, and weighs 78 grams. One side has a bowl-shaped hole. Thanks for any help in this ID!

Was digging in vegetable patch in clay soil about 20cm below surface in back garden, south-east London, UK and found this little beauty! First fossil I've found without looking for one. I especially like the lower section of the right-hand image, where you can see the pattern is an imprint rather than a protrusion (not sure of the correct terminology!) Any ideas what it could be? I've provided a scale on the image. Reminds me of a worm! I can answer any questions.

If this is too unrelated to the forum please let me know but I'm hoping to create a 'dinosaur' themed area of the garden for my son or any other kids who visit. Planning on installed more dinosaur nests with eggs (rounded chalk cobbles) and also some dinosaur footprints. It's the creation of the footprints I'm looking some advice on. I'm hoping to create a series of small paving slabs with a Dino footprint on each one. Wondering the best way to go about it. Perhaps a postcrete or a concrete mix into a mould of some type? It would have to withstand the elements but doesn't need to last forever. Any other suggestion for a Dino garden welcome :-) Ps I'm in the UK for product advice

Hello, I am new here, but very happy to find this forum. I found this rock while digging in my garden. I am in Ontario, Canada, close to the shores of lake huron. It may be nothing, but this rock looks like it is part of a petrified bone. I would love for some insight.

I have some bantam hens, which are in a field. They are in a large enclosure whilst a fence is being put up around the whole field, as everybody is confined to their homes, I decided to let them out of the enclosure and keep watch of them, so they don't wander too far. There's an area that is just mud, which they went to, and I noticed a small shell on the surface of the ground, and after looking closer, I found many more. In the last few days, I have found very many in just a small area. Most are bound in ironstone, these are some of my favourites. I also found some nice patterns in some ironstone.

I love gardening, and one of my favourite groups of plants is ferns. Have quite a few species and have even begun growing them from spore Was at the garden centre this weekend, and decided to add this Equisetum japonicum to my mini pond. I find it fascinating to have modern day versions of fossil plants

While rock hunting in my father-in-law's front yard, I found this. My father-in-law lives less than a half a mile from the Long Island Sound, NY. Is this petrified wood? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So i was just putting up my parents outdoor Christmas lights and this caught my eye. It was among a mixture of stones and pebbles that were bought in bulk, so i have no idea where they are from. I'm guessing it's coral or crinoids? We're from england if that helps but they could really have been from anywhere.

Hi folks, due to my recent infatuation with the trilobites, I've neglected the other plowed area where the orthoceras are found (and virtually nothing else, btw). It has rained a few times so I walked through the patch and picked these up this morning. Have a great weekend ALL !

Hi folks, We had a nice rain last night. Walked around the upper yellow shale garden and found these rinsed off lying on the surface. Sort of strange, this is (practically) the only fossil I've found here in this spot. Just 200 yds. away is my other dig site that has all of the other examples I've posted, but none of the orthoceras has been found there. I suppose there are many layers separating them, makes me wonder what the timeline would be relating to the different exposed areas. The bulk of the orthoceras seems to be in one end of my current tilling. Soon I plan to extend the plowed area a bit further up the ridge in search of higher concentrations. Cheers.

Hi everyone, in my back yard to one side of my block patio, I have an area filled with rock that has a bench swing in it. In the open areas there, I started a fossil garden about 2 years ago. It has pet wood, shells, coral, teeth, echinoids and other fossily stuff. Does anyone else have such a thing in their yard? If so please share some pictures with all of us.
