matthew textor posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Hi everyone this is matt again today in the creek I found a rock full of crystals 2 of them are light orange color here is a photo -
I believe it’s a flint core because it feels really soft and smooth. I love it’s look but when I look at the end of it there’s a golden color (please tell me it’s gold)! I’m sure it’s not .... haha... it won’t wash off or scratch off easily. Any ideas? Thanks for your help! Found in Ohio in a field ,in North central area.

I found this rock and thought it had some interesting features, including plant life. It is very hard and heavy for its size... can anyone tell me more about it?

Mare and I are headed to Eastern Oregon for a combined rock hunting/fossil hunting/gold prospecting trip. The month of June seems to be a good time as things have dried out, kids are still in school, and fire season hasn't really started in earnest. We'll be heading to Fossil, wandering over to Prairie City and the John Day country, then dropping down to Izee. We'll end up stopping at Delintment Lake, Glass Butte, and Hamton Butte. Our 20' RPOD travel trailer will be "base camp." A series of side trips will include visits to the Painted Hills and Sheep Rock Units of the FossilBeds Nationa

As many of you may be aware, I quite like quietly sitting prepping little fossils with my board pins. And last year I was sent a pin vice by the wonderful @JohnBrewer And ever since, I've been happy as a very happy thing with my loupe and pins, prepping away. But all my pins have become blunt. So, I've got some more! Only the best for my fossils! Trouble is they only last about 10 seconds each. Hey ho!

This guy found a nugget weighing 177 ounces, or 5.5 kilograms. Maybe TFF folks should keep their eyes open for the shiny stuff, too. http://www.abc.net.a...-nugget/4470016
