Greetings all, This is my first post so please excuse any obvious ignorance. I'm an absolute newbie in all things fossil hunting related. I was wondering if anyone help me confirm if this is or is a sort of a fossil or just a random rock? Found it near Hannover Point at Isle of Wight during low tide. Feels fairly light and has some distinct shiny/ gold-ish patterns among the cracks. There is also a sort of a vertical ridge going through the length of it. Thank You! Michael

Hello! I just came back from the Isle of Wight. I started "digging" in the Vectis formation stones that I collected at Yaverland and found what looks like a pterosaur tooth. It is +- 3 cm (1,18 inch) in lenght. I couldn't find anything online from the Isle of Wight resembling this kind of dagger shape, more typical of the Rhamphorhynchus pterosaurs. So pterosaur, fish or something else? Thank you!

Unknown fossil from the Vectis formation of Yaverland - Isle of Wight
ADfossils posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hello! I just came back from my first dream trip to the Isle of Wight. I found a lot of beautiful fossils, including an Iguanodon vertebra from Brook Bay, a lot of small teeth, bones from the Vectis and Wealden formation of Yaverland etc. I will post everything in a few days when I'm done preparing them. In the meanwhile, I stumbled upon this in some matrix from the Vectis formation at Yaverland. It is in 3D and approximately 1 cm / 0.4 inch in length. Would anyone be familiar with the Vectis formation and have an idea of what this could be? Thank you!- 25 replies

Hi, I live on the Isle of Wight which I know has a good reputation for fossil finds so I want to make the most of living here and get out looking for some. I was just wondering if there are any laws regarding fossil hunting like if I find something am I allowed to keep it or do some things have to be declared if found in certain areas. I know with metal detecting there are some regulations that can catch you out. Thanks.

Found this at Rocken End, St Catherine's point, Isle of Wight, think it comes from the greensand formation but I'd be surprised if this is a footprint since this is a marine deposit pictures attached below
